Hello,
I've come here after doing a bit of research concerning my eyes because of my sensitivity to light. I have been more sensitive than other people for a few years now but this last year I have been considering wearing sunglasses a lot more often, and the last 2 weeks I have been doing this, when going outside when it's moderately to very sunny. I won't wear them inside, I read that that's not a good idea and could make this worse. But when I don't wear sunglasses, everything is just a bit too bright, and when I wear them everything looks normal.. I wore them today, and I notice that I can look at my environment again, without squinting! Of course, wearing sunglasses isn't really a solution or a cure. And wearing sunglasses on a cloudy day is a bit odd.
Anyways.. My question. I decided to test my pupil response to bright light. I shone a bright light into just 1 eye at a time. What I noticed is, while shining the light into my eyes for a few seconds, my pupil will first get smaller (although, not as small as I expected/consider normal) but then almost back to the size it was, and then sort of keep going back and forth in size, although not as much as the initial responses. This happens in both eyes, and I don't remove the light yet while this happens. I also noticed my pupils aren't doing exactly the same thing, which I read should happen. The other pupil will at first go along and get smaller at about the same time and the same size as the other, but after that they get out of sync and both do their own thing.
Is that a normal response? I can't find much about it online.Does anyone have any suggestions as to what could be causing my sensitivity and, if it is abnormal, this pupil response?
I've never had any injuries to my eyes or head other than some mild ones that happen to most people, I haven't used any drugs that could cause this, and the sensitivity is a constant thing not just sometimes or changing in severity. The only other constant signs/symptoms of other undiagnosed issues I have would be mysterious pains and joint issues, maybe unpredictable food sensitivities too.
I'm also not sure but I believe my pupils are slightly larger than normal, but it's not obvious.
I ask because I am planning to go to my doctor about the sensitivity to light, but I'm pretty sure that unless I actually have something I can ask him to consider, he'll tell me that the sunglasses are a good solution and I'll be fine.. And I of course prefer that this gets resolved. I often can't keep my eyes open when sitting in the car on a sunny day with the sun visor out. (No, I'm not driving).
Thanks
