Worried-Five Weeks Since Cataract Removal

I'm an American retired in the UK. On 16 Apr had cataract removed from left eye. I have had mild irritation bordering on milld pain since. Vision is blurred and I am extremely sensitive to bright light. I had my op done on the UK National Health Service (NHS). My GP talked me out of going private, although I am a retired Fed with Care First (Blue Cross) Health insurance. Additionally, I have very limited central vision, although peripheral vision seems to be ok. There is no discernible inflammation/redness of the eye.

The removal was done with anesthetic drops following dilation. Ultrasound was used to break up the cataract. I was on drops for three weeks, later put on anti-inflammatory drops, which the surgeon (see below) later ordered me to stop.
I have spent over 20 hours waiting in the ophthalmology clinic of the NHS hospital concerned, and seen by at least four doctors and technicians who have imparted no information to me. (Typical for the British NHS.) I last saw the surgeon who did the op who said she can "think of no explanation" for my problems. End of discussion! I later learned that the surgeon (consultant) concerned had little actual surgical experience.

I am no expert, obviously, but have a feeling some damage may have been done to the extraocular muscle on the side of my left eyeball. I am currently scheduled to have the right eye done on 3 June and am becoming seriously concerned.
Am I being overly concerned, or should I continue to ignore the discomfort to see if the eye wil "settle down?"

To make matters worse, my usual local optician refuses to see me until six weeks have passed since the surgery. Accordingly, this puts me into July for new glasses.

No, "-" means I've read the question and answer and have nothing to add. Jodie J is on most reliable competent respondent and she rare posts anything that I disagree with.

Did you provide a response that I may have missed? I failed to realize, above, that I was not responding to you, but to Jodi.J.

My non-professional advice would be to use your Blue Cross insurance to get a second opinion from an experienced surgeon.  Cancel your right eye surgery scheduled for June 3.  You can get your right eye done (privately) when your are satisfied with the results of your left eye.
