Flickering in eye after cataract surgery

I recently had cataract surgery (two weeks ago) and have noticed light flickering in the corner of my left eye as it moves from left to right and up and down.  Also I see a slight shadow in the corner.  This is all in direct light hitting from the left side.  I have no problems at night. I have been reading that most of these problems will probably abate in time.  My question is, I have to have the right eye done.  What are the odds of the same thing occurring in the right eye?  Any information you can give me will be of great help.  Thank you for your time

You need to discuss this with your surgeon.  You probably do not have your glasses for this eye and they may resolve the problem.  There may be cause for this problem.

Thank you for your prompt reply.  I did discuss the problem with mysurgeon and he said the lens was perfectly placed, and he dilated my eye and everything is perfect inside. You said there could be cause for this problem but you did not elaborate. I am more confused than ever.  I know what I'm seeing and I'd like to know what could cause it

The problem you describe is call temporal dysphotopia.  Positive is when you see light, negative is a dark area.   Most commonly seen  with Alcon IOLs.

Thank you for your reply.  One more question, does this usually go away and do you have a suggestion as to what type of lens would be the best and have the least chance of causing this problem?

If it does not go away, the lens needs to be exchanged.

DR. O. I had the crystalens HD 500 implanted on the 2nd of FEB. and I have the same thing lights and flickering and glare at night and the shadow in the side. When im driving at night when I pass street light this glare passes across my eye. I went to a new eye Doctor who is experienced in the crystalens IoL and he said I have some frost on the bick side of the eye that needed to be lasered. He also said I have some astigmatism that could be the reson he is going to do lasik first to fix the astigmatism and see if that dose the job. In allso have blurry vison far and near.  What are your thoughts on this. Thanks.
