"retina hardware" are buckles, sleeves, exoplants, stitched that are used in the surgery. One of the frequent posters here, JodieJ I believe, had pain that persisted and was repeatedly told there was nothing wrong, as I recall she went to another retina surgeonthat identified an exposed stitch, removed it and the pain went away. The fact that genteal helps indicates the problem is like on the surface of the eye. Have them look for exposed stitches carefully all over, use fluoriscene dye to help them, also ask they evert the upper lid and look for something under the  lid.

Until you get in Monday (push for same day exam since you are in pain or call the retina MD on call today) try an ointment like Refresh-PM, Systane ointment, or Lacrilube. You can use all you want.

Dr. Hagan,

I wanted to add that I have had Steroid drops they gave me I have used all they gave me & now am using Acuvail,Predforte drops & also using a Genteal lubricationg eye gel. The gel helps >>>>BUT only for ONLY a VERY short time & then it starts up ALL over again ALL day long from the time I get up to going to bed, the irritation is I would say about a 6 to 7 level in my eye ! Could there be a problem with the buckle ???

Thanks again !

Thanks Dr. What do u mean by Retina Hardware, I know what that is > I guess the things they put in my eye BUT what do you mean by exposed Stitches or Retina Hardware so I can tell them when I go again, believe they think I am crying wolf so to speak BUT something is not right & I need assistance to be able to ask this when i go again something seems not right since the irritation happens all day long ever since the 1st surgery 5 months ago & has the SAME amount of irritation as the 1st day !!!!!!!!!!.

Your professional advice VERY apprieciated !

Your problem could be dryness, inflammation, exposed stitches or retina 'hardware'. You may need steroid drops or lubricating drops/gels/ointment.

If it continues get a second opinionl.

after having all those eye surgeries your eyes are probably really dry, so try using artificial tears for a while and seeing if that helps the irritation.
