eye test that clears double vision? explainaiton needed

HI All

Is there anyone out there that can explain optically why when looking passed the bottom of the card
as demonstrated in the in the linked photo below , that all things become in focus close to the edge of the card?

Thanks for the rapid reply, you are right, I made a pair of Pinhole glasses in about 2 minutes, they have the same affect as the card thanks.

That being said and now knowing that the pinhole effect corrects my diplopia vision problem ~ Question: In this situation knowing the above test result, could one still consider cataracts the cause for the diplopia?

Actually Dr O they seem clear up aberrations  in all fields, including reading, I wear trifocals.

This is similar to squinting your eyes.  It creates a pinhole effect.
