eyes always red and wet

My eyes ever since I can remember go red and itchy so I rub them then they go all swollen with a what looks like a film of jelly under them. When I wake up I have a thick green mucus in my eye under my bottom lid but they are always leaking like my tear ducks don't have a stop tap so I can't really wear make up to cover the darkness under my eyes from after they have been swollen.  Make up makes my eyes feel normal but when I wear it my eyes run and so does my make up so its pointless putting it. I went to my doctors and he said its a reaction but he didn't know what from so he give me general drops that don't help but no-one knows any different.  Can some one else help me does anyone else have this problem or am I just not normal ?

You may have meibomian gland dysfuction and related blepharitis which is characterized by itching, excessive oily secretion appearing as greenish grease, dry eyec etc. It can occur for various reasons like skin condition, hormonal problem etc
Cleaning eyelid margins regularly will help to reduce symptoms to some extent also its a chronic condition in most cases.
