Mark on retina

Hi, I have been having floaters in my eyes for around the past 6 months. I though this was nothing to worry about but after a visit to my optician he has referred me to hospital. He said he cannot see any rips/tears/holes or signs of detatchment on my retina but said he can see a 'tide mark' on my left retina (when i look down to the left). I am so worried, I have no idea what this could mean and he was not very good at communicating any possibilities to me. Has anyone ever been told they have this? Does anyone know what this could be or mean?
Any info would be great...i am so scared tht it's something bad!
Thanks
Yvonne

Closest I could guess would be "demarkation line" which indicates the level of a previously detached retina that has been reattached surgically or reattached spontaneously.

I guessed that was his term, just unsure what a mark on retina could be caused by and was hoping someone else may have hear this term being used before.
thanks
