macular pucker

I have had 5 surgeries on my left eye. It started with a basic cataract surgery that I had cloudy vision issues with, retina detachment, high eye pressure, laser to "fix the pressure issue which did not work, a tube was put in to decrease the pressure which worked and finally macular pucker surgery but the eye collapsed and the Dr. had to inject something into the eye to maintain the shape.... At this point, 2 months after the macular pucker surgery, my vision has not improved and I can only see faint images for distance and can't read anything.
The cataract and laser surgery was performed by an ophthalmologist and all of the other procedures was done by a retina specialist.
My retina Dr. is saying that the eye is still swollen and recovering from the "collapse" and it will take time before my sight begins to improve
Is there anyone who has had the same issues?  Any suggestions?

OP hasn't answered yet but I notice that pressure spikes and RD are both possible risk factors listed for cataract surgery as I was looking at the list yesterday on the American Academy of Ophthalmology web page for information.  Also the swelling (CME) is listed as a possible risk factor, but as I said above, I don't know if the OP had the pucker previous to the cataract surgery.

This forum is full of frustrated, unhappy, disappointed people that have had multiple retina surgeries. As a generalization the prognosis for return of "good" vision in your LE is poor.  The most important thing is caring for your good eye.  Your RE will be at increased risk for cataract, retina problems, glaucoma and the same set of problems.

You may want to consider seeing a second retina surgeon for a second opinion about the status of BOTH THE RE AND THE LE.  Ask the consultant what might be done to protect the good eye from going down the same path.

So prognosis is poor. Don't forget your most important eye and only seeing good eye is the RE.  Move heave and earth to keep it healthy.

Wondering about what occurred, if I might ask the OP for clarification:  Did you mean you had a cataract surgery and then some time later you had RD so you had emergency surgery I assume for that, but am not sure if you meant the high pressure was from glaucoma or if you had high pressure occur as a result of the other surgeries/conditions.  I have heard/read of a macular pucker occurring after cataract surgery, or was the macular pucker giving you distortion problems the entire time prior to the cataract surgery?  Just wondering.  I am sorry to hear of the problems and Dr H has given you great advice here.  I have a few issues but they're not quite the same as yours.  Best wishes with the further consultations!
