Hello Dr. Hagan,
Is a posterior polar cataract alwaya associated with a hole in the back? Is the probability of a hole or a tear increased if you wait to have surgery? Does this effect the final outcome of the surgery if you are willing to go with mono focal IOLs?
1. It is definietly higher than normal since the back wall has a hole in it.
2. Nothing from the patient except understanding higher than nomral risks.
3. Dropping the nucleus into the vitreous and needing a second operation to get the nucleus out.
4. Retina surgeon needs to be available. Almost none are done with a retina surgeon actually scrubbed in on the case.
5. No surgery doesn't need to be done until cataract causing "significant problems with vision"
6. I don't know any, I'm sure they are. Indians are fine surgeons and respected ophthalmologists.
