HUGE blocked fallopian tube, long term effects?

Hi, this is my first time posting here, sorry if this isn't right for this forum.

A few years ago when I was 18, my doctor found a huge mass in my abdomen, about 8 liters in volume, weighing about 20lbs.  Turns out it was a blocked fallopian tube, which couldn't be determined until after it had been drained.  It was removed without issue and no sign of cancerous growths around it, which was the main concern going in when the best guess was that it was a gigantic ovarian cyst.

After the surgery, I was mostly just happy to be alive and cancer-free.  I asked some questions about my future fertility but let it go when I couldn't get any concrete answers.  The most my doctors could give me was that my fertility is theoretically unaffected because having only one tube isn't a big deal.  There isn't really research available on the effects of having a mass that size sitting right on my organs, though.  And no word on the chances of recurrence when the cause is undetermined.  I'm still several years off from thinking about kids (currently 22 years old), but it nags at me not to have any information.

The doctors also have no idea what caused it.  At the time I had never had any kind of sexual contact or infection and hadn't sustained any abdominal trauma, which rules out the major causes I've seen online.  Also no signs of reproductive health issues since it was removed.  "Just a freak occurrence" was the best explanation I could get.

In the years since, I haven't been able to find any examples of a hydrosalpinx of similar size or its long term effects, and I would really love to talk to anyone who has gone through something similar.

Praying for both of you! It is so difficult to be patient and have faith, but I agree - I believe it all happens in God's timing.

Hey Babyee. We had the same exact thing going on with the blocked tube. I did laprascopy on 12-4-2014 to unblock it. I'm 32 and hubby is 34 and we're ttc#1, married for 13yrs. I believe it happens when the time is right; waiting on God to bless us with our Promise.

Well, I can't say my story is exactly similar but, I'll share my thoughts. Are you getting a period every month and ovulating? If so, you're still fertile and that is a good indicator you could get pregnant.

When I was 24, my ex husband and I had trouble conceiving. I finally went through some (basic) fertility testing and they performed a test where they insert dye into your tubes to find out if everything is clear. Low and behold, I had a block on my right side. Now, the doctor was able to clear it with just some poking around, and they never concluded I had any infertility issues. My block was not anything along what you have experienced, but it was also unexplainable as to how I got it - it just happened. Several years passed and I never had a child with my ex husband. However, I am now 31 and pregnant with my first. I have always been very regular despite the block. Never miss a period....so I would say, if you are having regular periods, the chance is always there for you to have a baby when you want. If you're not, I would make an appointment with a fertility center to see their thoughts and if you can do anything to increase your chances when the time comes that you want to try.

I know my story isn't the same, but I thought I'd share. I feel like this baby is a miracle so I sympathize with anyone who is unable to conceive....it is gut wrenching and heart breaking.

I'm praying for you hun! Please keep us posted!
