I also had my first IUI 10 days ago. I was on 100mg of clomid then hgc shot. now 14 long days of progesterone suppositories. ( don't you just love those!) im keeping my fingers crossed, but of course my doctor has told me my odds.... and that most woman will take within 3 tries. I wouldnt give up after just the first one. keep your spirits up! We all know how much it will hopefully be worth it in the end!
teach212,
I'm 39, just had my first IUI two days ago. I did injectables - gonal f and then the trigger shot. I only had one mature follicle, another almost mature, so we'll see what happens. I I was so scared that I wouldn't make it home in time to do the injections on time. But my time was 7-10pm so I was ok.
I am sorry about your last iui experience. Just hang in there, you are a lot younger than me and still have a great chance of getting preg. If I have two failed IUI's I will move on to IVF. At my age, IUI is only at 10-12% chance of pregnancy. With IVF its 30% chance of pregnancy. So I know that this may all take some time and I you just have to be patient.
DETERMINATION is what will get you there, so keep your chin up girl!
Good luck, and think pleasant baby thoughts!

Hi, I just finished my first round of injectables. Today I tested and got a BFN. This cycle I had Menopur (injectable), IUI and then progesterone suppositories. I really didnt experience any side effects. I produced 2 good size follies. The only hard part with injectables was that I had to do it daily between the hours of 6-8PM. One time I knew I wouldnt be home and I had to bring it with me in a cooler (has to be stored @ certain temps) and then take the shot in my car! I felt like a drugee! hahah. But if you can get past injecting yourself daily, then it should be fine. The RE will monitor you very closly and you'll also be doing a lot of blood tests to make sure that everything is working fine. Good luck to you! Let me know if you have any questions. I will be doing another round once AF starts....
Thank you for the well wishes and words of wisdom! I really appreciate your advice and I know you know how frustrating and sad this is! I'm wondering where I should take it from here! My doc wants to try it again but this time he wants to use injectable medication. I don't know what to do because I am allergic to so many meds. and preservatives, which I am worried that these meds might contain. I am also very sensitive to all of the hormones so far and I'm afraid of hyperstimulation. I honestly don't know where to go from here!!! My husband and I are thinking that we should take some time off but I want this so badly that I'm not sure if that will just be more frustrating!!! Any thoughts??? Have you done the injectables?
I'm sorry. I just say where you got a negative. I completely understand. I had pretty much convinced myself that I was pregnant because I was so nauseated after my IUI. Turned out it was a sinus infection on top of AF. Talk about adding insult to injury. I was crushed. My RE was really encouraging though. He said that the reason that IUI is attributed with such a good success rate because when they say it is highly successful they are talking about these treatments being spread out over the course of six cycles. kmcarino is exactly right about your chances per cycle being only 15% to 20% per try which is the same as a couple trying naturally. I know how bad it is right now but just hang in there because it'll get better. I think the really My RE said some women do get lucky their first time and that's it, but it's almost never the first time, he said, not for most people. The good news (I think anyway) is that we can usually turn right back around with such little time in between and try again so here's wishing you all the best for your second attempt.
I am so sorry that your test was negative. I have been there and it hurts so bad and is so depressing. However, after you grieve your bfn, you will get back up and be ready to try again. You will get through it. Be strong and remember that IUI only has a 15-20% chance per cycle. It is like trying naturally...so it will happen!
I just wanted to thank you for your responses! It is very comforting to have advice from people who have "been there". I went to the doctor today for my pg test and it was negative. So sad... I feel the same as when I had my 2 previous miscarriages. I have to decide where to go from here!
Thanks for your help and support!!!
I had spotting on 16dpIUI and still turned out to be viable pregnancy...
I would go a head and take a home pregnancy test..
I had my first IUI done back in May and came back with a negative. I didn't have any spotting at all. However, I have seen on this forum and I have read on numerous infertility/fertility websites about implantation bleeding which is some light spotting which may occur (typically brownish or a brighter/lighter color red than period blood) which is when the fertilized egg implants or attaches to the uterus wall (or at least this is how I understand it). Implantation usually occurs around day 6 or 7 from what I've read but can on occassion occur as late as day 10 - 12 post ovulation. The problem is that spotting can also indicate that AF is on the way. Just hang in there. Hope for the best and prepare for the worst. Honestly, it could be either implantation bleeding and you are pregnant or your period and you are not. I think 14 days is the earliest you can actually test with accuracy and then we're talking about a test through your doctor's office not necessarily the home pregnancy tests. Just hang in there and keep hoping for the best. Hopefully you will be pregnant, but if not there is always next month so just hold on. Good luck!
