Provera & Clomid First-Time User

Yesterday I had a follow-up appointment with my OBGYN, and he said that I am not ovulating. My progesterone was 1.3 and it should have been closer to 10. Since I didn't ovulate, they are putting me on Provera to make me bleed. And then I am to start Clomid. My doctor said that 2/3 women get pregnant in the first three months. I was just wondering if someone could share their experiences with me on taking these two drugs. How did you react to the drug, what were your results, how quickly did you get pregnant, did you have multiple births, etc.? Thank you so much for your time.

I just finished my first round of clomid. My hubby and I were having trouble conceiving and went to a specialist and found out I have PCOS also. When I took the Provera, I was a little emotional, but that was about it. It seemed like I would get weepy at around 10 pm or 11 pm at night, not sure if that was a side effect or not. I finished the provera on a Monday and had my period by Friday. I then started the Clomid 50 mg on cd 5 and good Lordy did I have hot flashes. I felt like I was burning up from the inside out!!!! I am now on cd12 and am going back for more bloodwork and ultra sound on friday. They said I have one follicle maturing but its not ready and hopefully it will be ready on Friday. They said that right now its measuring at 10, I'm not sure what that means so if anyone know, I would appreciate some more info on that. I had to have an HSG, and that was one of the most painful things I have ever experienced, and I wish someone would have warned me. Wishing you all happy little bundles of joy!!!! Think mature egg thoughts for me :)

My Dr. told me that right after you ovulate your Progesterone levels spike up & 99.9% of women on Cycle Day 21 have a Progesterone level of 10 or greater. So, that's how they get that number, and are able to tell if you ovulate or not.

There is also a different hormone that your body creates when you ovulate. That's how the Ovulation Prediction Kits detect if you are/going to ovulate. So you may want look into those too.

Good luck to you.

I too just had my 3rd progesterone test.  I was on the Metaformin for 3 months that is.  The first month my numbers were around 6, and same for the second month....the doctor said that meant I wasn't ovulating.  Then I just had a test yesterday and the doctor said my levels were at 8 but that they should be at around 10 really to show that I was ovulating....so now they are saying they just aren't sure if I've ovulated yet.  They said if I am not pregnant they will assume that I did not.  : (  I'm just getting so frustrated and tired all at the same time.  I was trying to find out what the heck all these numbers meant and what a body really should be at for ovulations.....

I was diagnosed with PCOS too, I have taken provera a few times to bring on my period and had no side effects. I actually have my period now and tomorrow starts my first cycle to start clomid (it is Day 5 of my period). I will keep you posted on how I feel with the clomid. I hear positive things about it so I am extremly hopeful to get pregnant very soon.

Good Luck and I'll keep you posted.

This month was my first month taking clomid. my doctor had me on metformin and provera for 6 months before she started me on clomid cus i was not ovulated my levels were at .4 and .5. very very low! I have pcos thats why. I had to take provera starting on the 1st of each month for 10 days. I usually start my cycle the very next day. And on cd3 I start clomid for 5 days so cd3-7. I have been using OPKs for the last week and still have no ovulation. So hopefully you will have better luck than me. Other than that problem I didnt have that many problems. just have to stay on schedule. Good luck!

I took provera for two cycles to induce my period since i had had annovulatory bleeding.  I didn't get af until 10 days AFTER my last provera pill. AF was very heavy accompanied by major cramps. The second round after taking provera was a normal af for me.

I took Clomid during a 3 rounds of IUI.  I felt completely fine on Clomid as wel as the other hormones (injectables).  In fact, I felt balanced.  I have PCOS and maybe for me, that's why I felt so good!

The first round of IUI, Clomid made my cysts grow so the cycle was halted. After my 2nd round of IUI, I concieved my dd! There was no mutilples for me.

Timeline:  I started Provera in Jan 2008 for two cycles, started taking clomid for IUI in March 2008 and was pg in May 2008.

Good luck! SSBD!
