What should I expect when I start metformin???

I am going to start taking metformin tonight for my pcos. What side effects should I be expecting and what has happened with others while on this drug. I don't believe I am insulin resistant so this is weird to be taking a diabetic med for infertility.

I'm on metformin but I am insulin resistant, I'm taking 850mg per day after dinner. It's been making me very sick but seems to be working for me.

Hello! i just started taking it about 3 or 4 weeks ago.. and as babybun said, i took it only once a day for 5 days or so in the evening with a meal.. i really didn' t have many side effects, maybe once or twice had stomach cramps that were pretty bad, but no big deal really, a little nausea, but defintely tolerable!  got pretty hungry a few times, but thats it!    I'm not insulin resistant either, and i'm actually a little underweight.. but we wanted to try any and everything we could this last cycle and so far my follies look better than ever! so i'm not sure if its coincidence or if its the metformin really working!!! GODO LUCK! : )

when i first started it caused a lot of gi upset. its best to take it with food, i have found. the first few days it might help to take it in the evening or when you know you will be in most of the day in case you need the bathroom a lot. After about 3 or 4 days my body adjusted.
