$$ IVF

I am currently in the TWW, but trying to come up with a reasonable plan for the future. I have done many IUI's, got pregnant with twins at one point and miscarried. Since then i have done three unsuccessful IUI's. My doctor is recommending we move on to IVF, provided this current attempt doesn't work. My insurance will not cover IVF, how others  paid for IVF? I hate to make a financial decision, but i may not have a choice. Thanks for listening.

Hello!
I live in New York. There is grant money alloted to certain IVF facilities in NY. I am not sure if that is available where you live or not. The grant money covers the IVF/Meds/BW/US etc...everything! You pay a percentage based on your income.
For us, our responsibility is $4355 for EVERYTHING...it also includes freezing any embryos left over and 1 additional round if the first does not work. It covers the cost of freezing for 1 year.
My baseline u/s is going to be 3/31/09-I'm so nervous but yet excited.
Anyway....even though $4355 might not be alot to some people-it is to us. What we did is we had about $2300 we KNEW we could lay out without straining ourselves. For the remaining $2k...we took out a capital one CC. They had a special rate for 0% apr until Feb 2010! We figure if we pay like $200/month on the card, we will be able to pay it off in time. If not, we will take a loan against our 401k at a low interest rate to "pay ourselves" back.
Hope that helps you!

Hi smmast! I am about to start IVF and will be paying for everything out of pocket. I have also been pregnant before...twice, with no fertility help...but I also miscarried both times. My RE has a special rate for women who doesn't have IVF coverage, so with meds, monitoring, egg retrieval and transfer, I'll be probably be paying under $10,000. It seems like most people on here are paying more than $10,000, though. It all depends on your RE's rates and what type of meds and what dosage you'll be on (the meds are expensive!).

I hope things work out for you this month and that you get your BFP!
