hi
My first IVF they retrievd 19, 10 fertilized but at day 5 we only had 1 and I now have a son.
I am doing IVF at the moment and had a scan today. There are around 16 but they still need to grow. They are from 14-16mm. I hope this time to be able to freeze some for later.
Good luck!!!
Update: got the call his morning and looks like I'll be doing a day 5 transfer. I'll be getting a call tomorrow morning on time and specifics of the transfer. I may not have any embies to freeze but I'm ok with that as long a we have at least one healthy baby. After being with my husband for 13 years this will be our little miracle. I know we are not out of the clear but I was so nervous about the quantity of good embryos I was starting to worry. Thanks to everyone here!
Thank you for all the words of encouragement. You ladies are right, it only takes one! I'm anxious for the phone call later today. I will keep everyone updated. Thank you!
Don't worry about how many eggs are retrieved. I actually hyperstimulated. They retrieved 34 eggs. 22 Fertilized. Because I had so many that fertilized, and the odds are slightly better when they reach day 5 (blastocyct stage) I got a call that only 6 were at blastocyst stage. Doctor was extremely happy with that number. He said that about 80% of the eggs never reach blastocyct. So don't stress. I implanted two blasts about two weeks ago - and I just got my first beta - 1200!!! Hoping for twins but will be ecstatic with just one.
Don't get hung up on the starting number of eggs vs the final fertilized number.
Keep us posted.
I definitely agree with Jenny5 in saying that quality, not quantity is what matters. I had 10 eggs retrieved, 7 fertilized, and 6 of those made it to day 4. When it came to transfer time on day 5, RE said I only had 3 good embryos. Remember, all it takes is one! I'm now almost 19 weeks pregnant with twins! Try to take a deep breath and stay positive! Good luck! Keep us posted!
I got the same call when we went through our first ivf. 15 retrieved, 9 fertilized and of those only 3 made it to transfer and all 3 were poor quality on day 3. Now I have a perfect baby girl. One of those poor looking embryos made it and our girl is very happy and healthy.
Good luck to you!!
This is the thing with ivf.Is not the egg quantity but quality that matters. When i had my first ivf last august i had 12 eggs retrieved, 9 fertilized but only 3 made it to day 5.Everyday i had embryos that were not developing. No one knows how it will go only time will tell. It is frustrating, but maybe those 5 will be good. You need only 1 good embryo to stick.Good luck
