vaginal bleeding

mhv
Hello,

My husband and I did IVF on July 1st, 2009.  They put in 3 FET's.  One July 15th, my HCG was 112, and they confirmed I was pregnant.  On Tuesday July 21st, I stated having vaginal bleeding (sorry if TMI).  They did another HCG on Tuesday the 21st, and my level was 1314.  They told me that I had nothing to worry about, and that I was "very pregnant". . Well, today is July 27th, and I am still having vaginal bleeding.  It has never been heavy, just going through 1 mini pad a day (sorry... again TMI) no cramping, or clotting.  Mostly dark brown.. and "thin".  I was still nervous, so bought 2 HPT's.  I took one Thusday July 23rd, and within 10 sec. it said pregnant.  I took the other one last night Sunday July 27th, and it still says pregnant.  I am using Progesterone insterts and Estergon inserts 3x's a day.  My breast are swollen, and I feel Lots of "twinges" in my lower pelvic area.

I am just wondering if anyone else has had this happen, and wondering why it is happening.

Ok, I called the ferility clinic again this morning and let them know that I am on day 8 of vaginal bleeding... she stated that as long as I am not having cramping/clotting with the bleeding, that the fertility clinic is pretty comfortable in saying that everything is ok.  She also said that for some reason, after having IVF, bleeing is normal.  She said the estrogen is to thicken up my uterus, that they will eventually ween me off of the estrogen and progesterone, but that for now, it is needed.  she also explained that the baby aspirin I take everday could be hendering the ending of the bleeding.
I did have my HCG and Progesterone levels drawn today to see where they are at and will get the results from that tomorrow.
I am just praying that everything works out and that the baby(ies) inside me is just fine!!!!  I really want this!

Why do they have you on estrogen again? What does that do? I would not wait till Thursday! That is just not good. Yes it is good that your tests are still showing + but the bleeding needs to stop. If everyting is ok then they need to make sure!! I think your dr is not good! Go to the ER and tell them about the bleeding. THey will do hcg levels and a vaginal u/s. Ask for them to check your progesterone levels. You may just need more. Do you know how to check your cervix to see if it is opening or not? I would do that and bed rest to see if it stops first and if not go get checked in about 4 hours is what my obgyn used to say.

well, the doctor called back, and said they want me to stay on the estrogen and progesterone until i come in on thursday.  i don't feel bad, or like anything is wrong.  i actually feel that my 6th sense is telling me everything is ok.  that's what is scaring me.  i just wish the bleeding would stop.   the blood is not bright red, mostly dark brown.  i thought it stopped today, but it just started AGAIN!!  UGH!  its not heavy, but it has been going on for 7 day now!  I kinda have it in the back of my head that i should be prepared for the worst news on thursday, but with the pregnancy test coming up positive every 3 days, and the way i feel, i honestl think everything is ok.  i have had several friends tell me that had a full "period" the first month of pregnancy, and they all have healthy kids.  i just want to know what could be causing the continued bleeding...

Well like I said I had bleeding with all 5 pregnancy's! Tey told me I was fine but I lost the twin then had them all early. I was NOT fine and if they had tested my progesterone I would not have lost the twins or my Emma who ws born at 23 weeks. She died shortly after birth so no DO NOT take things and listen to them that everything is ok without them checking and testing! They told me my bleeding was just blood vessals and not to worry. I still did the whole time and knew something was wrong! When and doubt know you know your body and if you feel something is wrong or you do NOT like they gave you a good reason then get a second opinion. Best of luck and because you know about these things unlike I did way back then you have a direction to go and names of things to ask them to test for.

bleeding or spotting is common in pregnancy as long as it's brownish or dark brown.. if it's bright red.. then might have to check with doctor. .. if the bleeding or spotting non stop.. then it's worry time...

I was bleeding around 9 weeks.. doctor put me bed rest for 4 weeks, after bed rest.. the bleeding stopped..

Sometimes the old blood still there.. it's just gush out before the cervix closed..

Congrats..

thank you sooo much for the advice!
i do have an appointment for Thusday July 30th for my first ultrasound.  i just called and left a message to see if i should keep taking both x3 a day, waiting for them to call me back.  i must admit, i just "do what the doctor tells me" and am just taking the meds "cause they told me too."  they also have me taking a baby aspirin a day also.  they did tell me it was to early for the utrasound last week, but that as long as the bleeding didn't worsen, that all was good.  it hasn't.  it's just very very frusterating!  it seems to have almost stopped today, and is dark brown.  this is honestly driving me crazy!  do you think the positive HPT are a good sign?

I have never done the IVF thing but from what I know the estrogen casues your uterine lining to shed. I know you are not the first person to take both but that kind of bleeding is not good! Maybe you need more progesterone or need to be on bed rest for a few weeks to see if it stops. I bleed my whole pregnancy's and had multiples. I only ended up keeping one baby each time but had them early. They need to see were the bleeding is coming from. Your uterus, inside or outside or from your cervix, to make sure it is not opening. Go to your dr. If it is your cervix you need to have a cerviclage and bed rest. Do not wait MAKE then see why including progesterone levels!!!! Also if you have multiples then you might need more progesterone. Why do they use the estrogen? Just wondering.
