Anyone have sucess on second IUI does IVF have better sucess rate?

This is my second IUI using metforman, Gona-F and HCG shot, first was in Oct 2008, was unsucessful. Hubby and I have daughter conceived natural after being told we would have to have fertility treatment in order to become pg. She is three and we have been trying since she was a few months old to add to our family without sucess.   We had to wait after our first IUI to try again because I developed six 6cm cysts on my ovaries and are now on cd 13. Has anyone had sucess doing IUI, and how many times did you have to try to have sucess? Does IVF have better sucess rate? I don't want to waste our $$ doing this process if it does not work. Sperm is 4 not sure if this is a contributing factor, does anyone know?

Thanks so much for responding....had my first IUI today count was low 1 million. Was lower than I thought it would be, I am thinking that this could because we did bd last night. Checked OV on digital clearblue OV  test last night and today was +. Does anyone know if you are suppose to wait 24 to 36 hours after test becomes positive in order to conceive?  Is your best days, when you have + or is it after + is gone on OV test?

It shoudl not affect your sperm count if your IUI is 36 hours after the trigger.  My RE sugeested that too because sperm can live inside for like 72 hours so Bding tonight will improve your chances of conception.  Could you feel the liquid going in when you gave yoruself the HCG shot?  Is it the IM shot?  Other than feeling the liquid, there really isn't any way to tell right at first, but maybe tomorrow night you will start feeling more bloated and full.  The first time around, we got pregnant with the second IUI using Gonal F.  This time around, it took five IUI cycles(one IUI was cencelled) so it was really like four cycle sto get pregnant again.  IVF has a much better success rate but is much more expensive.

Thanks to all for response...I just took my HCG shot today I am nervous that I didn't do it right the last time I did this I went to a clinic and had a nurse do it. Does anyone know how I might know if it worked? Tommorow is first IUI have two good eggs this month so am hoping all goes well. Got to go do the BD with hubby as per doctors advice. I found that kind of strange, would this not lower sperm count for IUI?

Hi, I have PCOS and was taking Metformin for it.  We did 3 cyles of IUI with Clomid.  Got pregnant on the 3rd one but unfortunately had a miscarriage at 9 weeks.  They did not find a heartbeat on our little angel. My doctor gave me 6 months to rest before going back on fertility treatment but 5 months after that, we conceived naturally.  I'm now 19 weeks 2 days pregnant with a baby boy. This was really a surprise since doctor's were already telling me that the only way I could get pregnant is through fertility treatment. They said that fertility drugs stay a long time in our system so there is a chance to conceive naturally.  Just make sure you track your ovulation like I did.  Goodluck!! Wishing you lots of sticky baby dust!!!

opps. sorry its cdc.gov!   here is the link to the IVF page.. you'll have to click on the page that will have the statistics for each state and then clinic http://www.cdc.gov/art/ART2006/index.htm    they are always a few years behind since it takes so long to collect and put together the data.. GOOD LUCK! : )

Hello... yes a lot of us on here have gotten preg via IUI.. we were told that IVF with ICSI was our only hope (we have many issues including male factor - morphology of 2%) shockingly we got pregnant on our 3rd IUI,  (using follistim, femara, trigger and progesterone) we had already had our IVF consult and everything! unfortunately miscarried.. we have since done (gosh i have lost count!) i think its 6 or 7 or more IUI's total, and total got pregnant 3 times and lost them all.. but then we found out that i have a clotting disorder, so we hope thats the cause for the losses. Anyhow, IUI worked great with us when we thought there was never a chance with anything but IVF... our insurance covers IUI, and not IVF at all, so thats another reason we kept on with IUI's.. depending on your age the IVF success rate is usually around %40-%50 and IUI is usually only 15-20%.. you can actually look at the cdc.org website and look at success rates for age at your local IVF lab.. GOOD LUCK!!!! : )

I had 3 IUI's that were unsuccessful. I have PCOS and was taking Metphormin and Femara.  We moved to IVF initially because my insurance covered the process 100% but my RE did tell me that the chances are much better. We were successful on our first cycle and are now expecting twins. I know that IUI's do work and are a lot cheaper than IVF. If you insurance does not cover IVF you might want to try a few more IUI cycles. I'm not sure what a 4 means for sperm. Good Luck and SSBD to you!!
