cool. I am not failiar with the drug that much so i was just curious. Thank you, i'm sure it's used for that quite a bit. :)
For me, it is to really time my ovulation. Right now, I ovulate late, so by taking a fertility drug, it could manipulate the timing of it.
Hi, i am so new to the world of fertility medications. I am getting ready to start clomid, but i have a question. I saw a few ladies talking about not having ovulation issues, but taking clomid. Why would you take clomid if you are ovulating. Does clomid serve another purpose? Thank you so much for taking the time. :)
I'm sure all doctor's have very different opinions. I would definitely as yours about Letrazole. He/she may say no way, but it's always good to ask. And from what I understand (but I may be wrong here) is that Letrazole isn't FDA approved at this time, but that it can still be prescribed. I'm not sure if that's right. . . You know, my doc gives me so much information at each appointment, that my head spins for hours afterwards!
I'm supposed to ovulate in a few days, and my doc decided he wants me to give myself an HCG shot the day I get a positive surge. Not sure what that is all about. But now I need to go to a required class learning how to give myself shots. Confusing stuff this all is!
I'll keep you posted for sure. :-D
Wow, and Clomid was one of the options my ob/gyn mentioned. He said it was the safest with least side effects. Do you think I can ask him Letrazole or any other med instead of Clomid? I can ovulate on my own, and my cycles are regular. Thanks Ladies. Atia_Julii, good luck and please keep us posted. I would want to know if it works out for you.
I forgot to mention Clomid also gave me visual disturbances - moving from dark to light issues. The instruction mentionned it as a severe side effect, and to stop taking it, but my clinic said it was normal. It continued for about 3 months after I stopped taking it!
Thank you all SO much for your responses! My RE said that if I went with Clomid, he wouldn't even write the prescription, but would have someone else in the office do it because he was that against it. He then went on to tell me he is very biased because his PhD was on Letrazole. I wanted to make sure I heard both sides before deciding, but I am definitely leaning more towards Letrazole.
Hi. I tried both over the summer and I would without try Letrazole. Clomid gave me some really bad headaches, cramps, etc.....even hair loss! Yes, hair loss! With Letrazole, I had zero side effects!!! Best of luck to you!
I tried Clomid, I didn't have ovulation issues, and it really didn't do a lot for me, however like candie429 it made me very moody and irrational, gave me hot flashes, and on the second month it gave me a large cyst. My new RE is not a fan of Clomid, and neither am I! I'm sorry I can't compare it to Femara as I've never used it. We are now doing IVF, and have used Follistim and Menopur, along with Lupron, Ovidril etc, and they have never given me the bad symptoms that Clomid did. Of course I'm sure it is successul with lots of others. Good luck!
Thanks Candie! Yep, I'm definititely leaning towards IUI. I ovulate on my own every month. I have some minor issues, and my husband seems to have some minor issues, so these issues put together are preventing us from getting pregnant. So, hopefully IUI will work. Thanks for your response. :-D
I have also heard about clomid thinning out the uterine lining, which scares me.
I guess I don't really have a success story to share, but I have taken both of these meds. I am in the unexplained category, so I basically tried them to boost our chances. I definitely O'd on both, so they both worked great in that respect. With the clomid, I was very moody and had hot flashes. I know it can also cause your ovaries to hyperstimulate and it can thin your uterine lining. On the letrozole (femara), I felt a lot better, just headaches during the 2ww. It is certainly up to you though since they can affect everyone differently. You could always try one for a few cycles and then try the other. If you are having IUI, I am assuming your doctor will be doing ultrasounds to monitor the progress of your follies? If so, then you'll know for sure if the drug you picked is working for you or not. Best of luck to you, I hope this treatment gives you a BFP!! :)
