Continuing Metformin while pregnant

I have just gone throught IVF and concieved my first child.  I am 6 weeks pregnant and am still taking 1500mg/day of metformin for PCOS along with progresterone and estrogen.  I have been advise by the IVF doctor to stop metformin now but have been advised by my OB/Gyn to continue till after fetal heart beat is found.  What do I do?

I have Type II Diabetes and just had IVF three weeks ago.  The tests say that I am pregnant so I am going to see a Diabetes Endocrinologist tomorrow just to make sure I can still take my meds (metformin and glyburide).  If she thinks I should switch to insulin, I will.  The needles are certainly smaller than the Progesterone shots.  With your PCOS, you may want to see the opinion of a specialist in Diabetes care as sort of a tie breaker between the RE and the OBGYN.  Good luck either way and with any luck we'll both be new mommies in January.

Hi,
I also was on Metformin and conceived my daughter who is now three weeks old via IVF.  My RE (IVF doctor) told me to continue and let my OBGYN decide what to do.  My OBGYN had me take them until I was 12 weeks and then I stoped them.  He said that he always has his patients take it until they are 12 weeks.  Hope this helps.  Good luck and Congrats!
