Superovulation without fertility drugs?

An ultrasound for abdominal pain showed I produced 3 eggs this month (2 with one ovary, one on the other) without using fertility drugs.  My ovaries have been looked at a lot in the past year in the course of 3 failed pregnancies, and they have always looked normal.  Does anyone know what causes eggs to produce more than one egg?  Is it more common in older women?  BTW, I don't think I'm pregnant, but it's a little early to test.  I do feel kind of hormonally "off"--very tired, with bad PMS symptoms, and I still have the abdominal pain (and I'm not sure why exactly).  Thanks for any thoughts!

I have heard that can happen in late 30s and 40s especially.

Thanks for the quick response.  I'm trying to figure out if this is an entirely good sign--that is, it would seem that more eggs = a better chance to conceive?  Or is producing multiple eggs on both sides a sign that my ovaries are aging and having problems?

My doctor seemed to think it was good to produce multiple eggs if I want a baby, but I thought of  more questions after I left his office.  Ironically, my husband was out of town this month during my likely fertility window, which is why I think it's doubtful I'm pregnant unless I ovulated early.

my bff has 'super ovulation' a couple times a year.... I think probably to do with your FSH levels ...
She can tell when the ovaries are producing more than the normal amount of follicles....
