Do you pick your specialist based solelyon Success Rates?

My DH and I have decided to move forward with doing IVF, but after looking at success rates it has confused me.  I don't know if I should leave my current specialist to go to another specialist with a higher success rate.  I have heard different things: don't look at success rates because everyone has different issues....but I don't know?  Any thoughts on this...

My suggestion to you is to make an appt with another clinic, or 2, and see which one your more comfortable with, and which one you feel will do the best job for you.  Some clinic's do no go into detail on things and then, some clinics have you meet with the embryologist, and have you "more involved"... I would definately do your homework first.  This is not a cheap venture, and it's your life we are talking about here.  The easy answer is to stay with your clinic, but, the question is do you want easy or do you want success?

Thank you for your advice.  We don't have insurance to cover it period.  I have been with my specialist through two iuis and the experience so far has been good.  Of course I haven't to other clinics so I wouldn't know what else to compare it with.  They are always up front about the cost of things and they are nice and considerate when I have come in to get treated.  Of course if there rates are rather low I will definitely look elsewhere.  What are good success rates?

I tell you my story. I chose an RE closest to my home, then insurance people called me to tell that if the doctor's success rates are low, insurnace coverage will be low too. if success rates are high, they cover better, so then i had to change to another doctor 40 miles awy from home. its a pain going every alternate day during cycle, wake up at 5 am and get ready and stuff.

you may consider success rates along with the doctor's behavior with the patients, nurses attentive ness, and etc. all we need during ivf is caring and concerning staff to deal with us.good luck.

It is tricky to look solely on success rates for a couple of reasons. First of all, "success" can be defined differently by different clinics. For example, does it mean pregnancy was achieved (not taking into account early losses) or does it mean live births? Also, clinics could technically deny IVF to certain women with lower chance of success, and that way it won't affect their success rates; but that doesn't mean they're any better (and certainly not more compassionate) than clinics who will give these same women a chance to conceive. Just a couple of things to keep in mind when making the decision... Best of luck!
