Could this be serious?

I have been having trouble TTC and never imagined my past problems would mean something serious. When I started college about 5 years ago I started skipping periods. Every doc said it was stress, but it has continued since then. On average I would skip about 4 periods before I would have one again. I never even considered myself stressed. I would usually only have a period by going to the doctor for a prescription to do it. I'm not sure what could cause this. We have been TTC since the beginning of July and so far I have needed to force a period because I wasnt having them (as usual) followed by a possible chemical pregnancy (I couldnt get to the doctor in time for them to test and see if it was for certain, but I am pretty certain it was) and now I am 9 days late for this period and my hpts are all negative. I'm tired of doctors just assuming I am stressed when I actually have a very relaxed life. What could be causing this?

Most obgyne offices have ultrasound so you shouldn't have to go to a hospital. Also I have normal testosterone and insulin but I am too on Metformin for the pcos. Not sure yet if it will work to regulate my cycles since I am on eight million other drugs for my IVF cycle.

when they did mine the u/s came out clear. I have the facial hair, overweight, high testosterone level and high insulin level.

2 doctors looked at the same thing and the second one said it's the beginning of pcos.

Now I'm on metformin to lower my insulin and a low carb diet to drop my weight. and I walk about 45 minutes a day.

They could do bloodwrk to test your testosterone levels and insulin resistance. Also a transvaginal ultrasound to check for a cyst formation. My blood work comes out normal and I don't have most of the side effects like facial hair and overweight. I just dont get a period or ovulate. And they confirmed my pcos by ultrasound.

Yes that was their answer for me, they just put me on birth control so I wouldn't have anything to complain about. The issue was I was in college with no health insurance at the time and could not afford it. So I have been off BC for quite some time and been able to monitor my monthlys. Hopefully my new doc is more attentive.

I was worried about PCOS. I read about it and recognized a lot of the symptoms. Do I just ask my new doctor (my other was an idiot so I have an appt with a new ob/gyn on Monday) to test for it? How do they check for it?

Thats horrible that all there doing is saying your stressed and not going after what the real problem is. I had the same scenerio where I wouldn't get my period unless I took provera to bring it on. My obgyne always said I didn't menstrate becuase I have low progesterone. Why I have low prgesterone he never told me he just put me on birth control to regulate my cycles. Now that I am TTC I have been of the pill for 3 years. For a while I wasn't actively trying but I wasn't not trying to get prego either. I went 2 years with only maybe 1 or 2 periods. Now 10 years later and with a new obgyne and RE I know that I have pcos. That was the blame for the irregular absent periods and why I wasn't getting prego. I wasn't ovulating. I really want a baby now so the DH ans I are in our first cycle of IVF. He has a low sperm count so with both of are problems IVF is the best chance. I would recommend you switch OBgyne's and get the answers your looking for they should do blood work at least and a transvaginal ultrasound. You could start Clomid to get your cycles regular and ovulate.

I think you really need to get a good examination from an ob/gyn! There can be many answers to this question. I miss periods all the time because of PCOS. I know that's why I'm missing periods. You should seriously get checked for PCOS. I wish you the best of luck and hope you can find the cause to this!!

I had the same problem and I was told to lose weight. Then told that I had a hormone imbalance.

Finally I got a doctor that knew something and she says I have PCOS.
