Fertility

do you have to have a menstrual to concieve or is that what the injections do for you without the bleeding? Sorry to sound so dumb but as i have seen its easier to ask people who are going through this. I have been prescribed hcg and menopur.  My problem is that i almost never have my period. any suggestions?

Yes, if you take provera, you should be getting a period. As for injectables, it can be used with timed intercourse too, but IUIs—and especially IVFs—will increase your chances. If you and your doctor decide timed intercourse is the way to go, he/she will probably give you about three days or so to have intercourse around ovulation.

Good luck!

My body is all screwed up i think and im so confused.  since the provera is tricking the body....that means i will have a period right, so shouldnt i get a period around this time next month? Also....if a person is taking the injectables....are they only doing it to get ready for an IUI / Invitro only or can we still try concieving naturally while on the injections?

Yeah, when you don't ovulate, you usually don't get a period...so with the menopur, which will help you ovulate, your cycles should be regular again. If you get pregnant on your first round of menopur, that's great, but if you don't, you should be getting a normal period about 14 days after ovulation.

As for having a period before starting the injecatables, I would think that's best, so that you can start with a "fresh" new cycle, so to speak. But I'm not sure is if is absolutely necessary. If your doctor want you to have a period first, he will probably prescribe a progesterone supplement, like provera, which will trick your body into thinking it already ovulated and then start your period after a certain number of days.

When you don't have a period, it means you're not ovulating, and you can only get pregnant if you ovulate. Menopur is a follicle stimulating hormone that helps the eggs mature so you can ovulate normally (although, unlike normal cycles where only one egg matures, you're likely to have more than one when on menopur). The HCG is a "trigger" shot that will help the mature egg release. So if ovulation is your only issue, you should have a very good chance on the injectables. Hope that helps!
