Metformin really worked for me.  The first month I was on it we became pg, but I ended up having an ectopic--nothing due to the metformin.  I also took clomid.  After the ectopic, we started follistim injections since my right side was damaged, RE wanted to produce more follicles on the left to get the job done.  I am now pg again and will be 9 weeks Thursday.  All is going very well.  I was also told the metformin would help reduce the risk of a miscarrige.  RE suggests I stay on metformin until 12 weeks or longer if needed.  Hopefully, I will not end up on insilin.  I would also advise you to stay away from carbs when you first start the metformin and when you increase your dosage.  Eating foods with carbs and taking the metformin gave me serious stomach issues.  Taking it with peanut butter helped.  Now that my body is used to the metformin, I try to only eat whole grain carbs, but can stomach regular carbs now. Good luck to you!

I take metformin for diabetes, but my dr. suggested it should help with ovulation and also reduce risk of miscarriage.  Good luck!

Hi Lisa,
I am on Metformin but I am doing IVF, so as far as conceiving just on Clomid I have not had that personal experience.  I work with a girl who is in her 30's and she was pretty over weight and unable to conceive because of irregular periods and ovulation (was not ovulating) she was on Metformin for three months and then conceived naturally, so the benefits I hear are great.  She also has PCOS, that was the main reason for Metformin.  I also believe it helps.  Good luck and I am sure it will work for you.
