Has anyone else used Menopur and Follistim
Hi all, my first stimulating hormone injections will start tomorrow. I am in my third IVF cycle and my doctor wants me to try Menopur in addition to Follistim. Has anyone else ever used this? I am a little nervous about preparing it w/ the q-tip and all. Any advice would help me out

The menopur and follistim medications were great for me...no side effects, no pain and no bruising...my husband mixed the Menopur everynight and I did the Foolistim pen. I was so nervous in the beginning mixing the Menopur so my husband did it and he didn't even flinch.
For the Menopur, the q-tips were easy, you just stick it in the Menopur vial until it clicks. Keep it in the vial if you still have water leftover and store it back in the Menopur box until your next injection. For me, one vial of Menopur water lasted us 3 nights. The vials of powder were finished in 1 night so we threw them away.
With the Follistim pen, my dosen was 300 units but the Follistim cartridge had 900 units in it and it lasted me for 3 nights...so you adjust the pen to the number of units, 300 for me, and inject. But you leave the cartridge in the pen for two more injections and store in the refridgerator as is. The next night all you have to do is dial your dose and inject. Then you change your cartridge when it is empty 3 nights later.
Kathy is right...looking back now is was a piece of cake and I am ready for cycle # 2 to start in less then two weeks. I had 13 eggs retrieved and 3 fertilized and all 3 transferred but unfortunately I did not become pregnant. My body did react well to those medications though but the embies just didn't take.

I finally took out a needle for the menopur and it is MUCH smaller than what I thought. dorti, that is great!!! 13 eggs, wow, the most I had between the first two was 6 or 7. I guess that is why they wanted me to do the menopur too! Let me know how things turn out. :) Kathy421, keep me posted and if you need anyone to talk to during this two week wait, feel free to write, I know how tough this part is.
For my third ivf I injected Lupron, follistim 150 iu, menopur 150 iu. Today I had egg retrieval - 13 eggs!. I hope this time will work. Sunday i will have a transfer. Tonight I start Progesterone oil injections.

Looking back on things, the injections with Menopur and Follistim were a piece of cake. I am now taking daily progesterone shots in oil and giving them to myself in my buttock.
I went to "google" and searched for: "youtube and menopur", or "youtube and ivf" etc.
There are real people who videotape how to prepare the meds and how to give them. Very easy.
I saw a lady give herself the progesterone shot in her buttock - she was a superstar, and now I do it myself.
