How to check for blocked tubes

Hi..

I had surgery 3 weeks ago to remove an ectopic pregnancy. My Doctor said my other tube looked fine. She must have checked when she was looking with the lap, but I didn't have the die test, so how do I know how accurate she is? Can she really tell for sure just looking with the camera? I am asking for reassurance that her statement was true, because otherwise, what is the use of the die test if they can just look at it without the die & get an accurate answer? So you would
think that if the die test is the only way to know for sure, she would have suggested that I get that procedure done, right? Unless, I the tubes are clear and they have no problem looking inside.

You're right...they do use an xray machine when doing a regular HSG. To be honest with you, I never thought to ask about how he did it during the lap. Maybe using ultrasound? Not really sure. I'm also not sure about the camera. Those cameras are pretty small nowadays, but I'm not sure if they're small enough to go down through the tubes or not. I don't think they could just look into the tubes from the uterus and know, though, because the tubes are pretty long and curving. Hmmm!

Thanks for your reply. I thought when they do the die test that an exray is involved and they use that to see if the die travels the whole way through the tube. I know I didn't pay for an exray. Am I wrong about them needing to do an exray? She is good at what she does. I can't imagine that she'd make a statement saying it looked good w/ o really looking. Hmmm, it is possible she looked inside the tube from the uterus?

Thanks again! I hope you are doing well getting prego!

She might have actually used dye to check during the lap. That's what my RE did. I had already had an HSG prior to my lap which showed open tubes, but that was more than a year before my lap (and a miscarriage in between), so he wanted to check again.

Maybe double-check with your doctor...and based on what she says, decide whether or not to ask for an HSG.

Good luck!
