Low Morphology :(

We got my DH's SA back and he has plenty of sperm and okay mobility but his Morphology is really really low. They are saying he needs to go back and do another SA and then make an appointment with a Urologist. No one is telling me what it means and if it's something that can be fixed or what. Does anyone have any answers or been in this situation?

Hi, we just went to Urologist, My DH has low everything but doc said no need to take any medications. I asked him about FertilAid, and he said no need to take. Morphology and Motility is very subjective and depends on the person to person who is looking at your sample. Just think about your count. My DH has 13 mil which is low. He is taking One a day Men Multivitamin, 1000mg Vit. C, He is eating Brazilian Nuts, Honey and Cinnamon, and more fruits and veg.
We have to do another SA in couple of weeks. Lets see what happens.

My hubby has a similar problem, they tell us initial count and motility are good but his morphology is poor which is effecting their survivability at 6 hours.  I don't remember the exact numbers though.  He takes anti-depressants and medical MJ for anxiety and sleeping problems and they said that both can contribute to poor morphology but unfortunately all anti-depressants are bad on fertility.  He decided to just go with the anti-depressants but on the lowest level he can handle without having problems.  The Dr's said that should help quite a bit (if those are the actual causes of our problem) and to also take 3g of Vitamin C a day for the anit-oxidant help.

We have been trying for 14 months now with 1 pregnancy after 3 months TTC which ended in a mc at 6 weeks.  Since then I have had 3 months where I sware I was prego but just lost it early on.

I'm hoping some of these things help and maybe the Vitamin C will help your hubby too incase he has any similar issues.

Good luck with your upcoming Dr. apt!!

We tried for over a year then started checking and realized that count and morphology were low. I took Vitamale (bought it on Naturules.com) for 3 months and the results were surprisingly great. Count went up 7 times in 3 months. Morphology improved a bit, but with a count of over 40M that was good enough. Based on the first SA, our RE recommended to go with IVF+ICSI, but after the second SA, the RE recommended to keep trying. We were able to to conceive naturally!!!
Good luck!

We had been trying for over a year for our second child and finally my OB suggested we both get tested because I am 39.  My husband had 1% good morphology.  So obviously the sperm can change since we already have a 2 year old son.  We decided not mess around (generally speaking) (-: and went straight to IVF/ with ICSI.  It worked the first time and I got pregnant with twins.  Unfortunately, I miscarried at 10 weeks.

We just did our first frozen cycle on October 12th...hoping for good results!

I think it depends on how patient you are and how much your husband is willing to do to change things in his routine, or your age.  My doctor was going to have my husband stop working out for 3 months, but I wouldn't have been able to live with him, especially if it didn't change anything in the end result!

Good luck!

My dh has low count and low morphology. He has been on fertilaid (recommended by my RE) and he has stopped drinking caffeine. We did IUI this month and it was a success. Good luck to you!

My husband went through the exact same thing (and also he had a low count and motility on top of the morphology thing). We did a series of multiple SA's over the course of 6-9 months (and he was even put on certain meds to see if it would help boost his count). Because there was so improvement, we ended up having to do IVF w/ ICSI. Like other people have said, I'm sure there may be a solution. My husband's numbers fluctuated, but not enough to get back to "normal".

we had the same problem, so we ended up doing IVF with ICSI to bypass the morphology issue.
sometimes it can be fixed if they can find a problem, sometimes not.
but definitely a good idea to repeat the test first, since things change quickly with the little swimmers....

A second visit for a test is nothing to be alarmed about.  DH could've just had an off-day, rather than a typical day.  That's why they want to test again.  It's too early to worry.  Here's some other info from the Mayo Clinic or you can google it: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/sperm-morphology/AN01305
Best of luck to you both.
