Spotting Mid Cycle

For over the past year I have had regular light spotting 8 to 10 days before my period (starting the 20th day of my cycle). During intercourse the bleeding gets a little heavier. I have been trying to get pregnant for 4 months now.  I saw the doctor and she did a hormone blood test (during my period) and an sonogram. My hormone levels were normal and I do have a fibroid but she said that it’s small and should not cause a fertility problem. I'm going back in on the 20th day of my cycle to do another hormone check. Since I'm 36 years old, I'm a little worried that I won't be able to get pregnant. I would like to know if anyone has had similar issues, what could be the cause, and did they get pregnant.

Update - my progesterone levels were normal and I actually found out I was pregnant. However, at 10 weeks I found out I lost the baby. I had a D&C and genetic testing reveled the baby boy had trisomy chromosome 22, which usually ends in a miscarriage.

I had spotting between periods a few different times in my life; the first two times it was due to polyps, which had to be removed through D & C.  They were discovered through a regular gynecological examination. The third time was due to low Progesterone, discovered through a blood test taken on day 21 of my cycle. Your day 20 blood test will be able to tell you if low Progesterone is your problem.
One pregnancy (miscarriage) since then, via IVF.  I'm 39.
