Ovulatory period or Anovulatory bleeding

I’m 25 years old, I recently had an abortion in December 2007. Shortly after the abortion I found out I have polycystic ovaries and had been put on Yasmin birth control pills. I took the pill for two cycles and stopped. Since I stopped I have been ttc and had cycles ranging from 28-29 days.  I know that some women "bleed" and it seems like a "period" but isn't a "period" and it’s called anovulatory bleeding.

My question is can you have a normal Period and still have a Ovulation problem? If the answer is yes how can this happened?  And how can you tell if it’s anovulatory bleeding and what’s the difference?

Absolutely!  Woman have annovulatory cycles all the time and still have "normal" periods!  The only way you can tell if you are ovulating is through several methods of monitoring.  You can chart your basal body temperature - fertilityfriend.com is a great place to start to get a tutorial on what you have to do and keep track of not only your temp, but all of these things.  You can also do ovulation predictor kits (clearblue easy ones are best) which detect your LH (lutenizing hormone) surge that happens about 24-36 hours before you ovulate.  You can monitor your cervical mucous as well as your cervical position.

Metformin may help if you have PCOS and I'd say clomid might help as well, but since you've already been pregnant recently I don't know if you'll need to go that far.
