Question for Dr/not pregnant but no period

Hi,
I have a 2 1/2 year old that we concieved on first try.  I have always had regular cycles and never been more than 2 days late except when I was pregnant.  I went off the pill in mid June, and have been trying to concieve since.  I am now at least 7 days late.  I have had two negative tests, and plan to test tomorrow per dr's instructions.  If I am not pregnant, what now?  What can I do to try to conceive?  I have heard I can take progestin to get my period started, but what are the pros and cons of this?  Is it true that if I don't start my period on my own, I did not ovulate?  I just need answers in case the test is negative so I will have a plan to move forward.

Thank you for the information, I actually had a positive pregnancy test this morning - so I won't have to go this route this time at least!  Now I just have to confirm with the Dr. Thanks for your thoughts.

I concived my 4 year old by accident, my husband and i started trying again in late 06 and I was pregnant within 8 months.

I'm taking it now, i had breast tenderness the first few days, some mood swings the first few days and now acne. I feel like i'm in high school all over again. But I had not had a period since April. They gave me 14 days worth of  natural progesterone to take. And i will have to take it for 3 months and see if my levels go up and stay up.

re: your question on progesterone

I was 30 days late, no period, negative pregnancy test and did just take the Provera, the progesterone.  You take it for 10 days and your period could take up to 2 weeks after that to start, per my dr.  I took the 10th pill on Friday and started my period on Sunday.  I didn't notice any side effects.
