Smoking and IUI

I have been a smoker for 13 years. (horrible, I know) Anyway, I finally decided to quit since I believe that is causing me even more fertility issues than I seem to already have. My question is; Will it be beneficial for me that I quit smoking even if it was only 6 days prior to my IUI?????  I know in the long run it'll help, but will it help me through this current cycle of treatment?

Hi,
Im totally with you, Iv smoked since i was 14 (im 25 now) and although i know its bad bla bla bla its a habbit and hard to kick so well done girl for quitting!!!! i personally think it will help even if you quit a day before because every cig you inhale can potentially do damage and without that things can only get better,
On another note my DH smoked he went to hosp for a sperm count (cant remember 100% what it was) But it certainly wasnt good, that shocked him into quitting,3 months later he had quit and was retested and it had improved sooooooo much something like gone up by about 40% the month after i conceived naturally :-)
I know your ttc but as of yet there is no baby ( so no point going through the what ifs! What if you damage a baby ect ect!!It will just upset you!! )  so personally id  just go off the damage you can do to your fertility ie egg quality is reduced that should be enough motivation for you :-)
I wish you the best of luck and hope your IUI is sucessful xx

You should stop smoking the moment you start trying for a baby.  When you find out that you're pregnant, you've already been pregnant for 2 weeks!  You baby has been conceived and has implanted!  Protect them now and quit the habit =)
