I agree with Rene, a day 3 panel will be the 1st order. If the #'s all come back good, they may rx a milder fertility med like clomid or femara. They may do an u/s to check for lining, cysts or anything abnormal. If they do an u/s, it will be vaginal, not on the abdomen. This is unexpected for some women, lol. It is normal procedure though :)
They will probably run another blood test around day21 of your cycle to check progesterone level to see if ovulating, also. Once this info is in, it will help determine the next step.
Hi our first RE appt was kinda long. He went over our history and just talked to both of us about infertility. He gave me a DH a slip to get blood work done, set me up for an HSG appt and gave DH a cup to bring back his SA. The RE made us feel so confident before we left that we will get pregnant soon. I agree with Mary97 we go through a hospital based RE and I love it. It's the best DR's office I've ever been to. Good luck to you. I hope everything goes well :)
Pick a clinic with a good reputation. Hospital based programs are usually very good.
I am not sure all that they will do, but the RE will probably order blood work, particularly your cycle day 3 FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) and estrogen. Those can't be taken until your next cycle. These hormones can indicate your ovarian reserve, which is important at this age in determining whether you will conceive easily or not.
The RE may also talk to you about your medical history and possibly that of your spouse. I had to send in lots of paperwork on our history before my meeting with the RE, some of which we discussed at the appointment.
Its good you are seeing a RE now, I waited until I was 40 and had already had 3 miscarriages. My sister had her first boy at 34 and her 2nd will be at age 38, so you definitely have a better chance than me.
Good luck and keep us posted with your progress!
