Weight loss issues….really struggling!

Hi all,

I started the fertility journey around  year ago in november… My RE advised me to lose weight. He wanted me down to at least 150, starting out I was weighing in at 177. I lost about 18 lbs and got down to around 159 ish. anyways, life happened, i got depressed so on and so forth, now i'm back on the diet wagon, my dietician who is in with my doctor, put me on the PCOS diet, which is what i lost all my weight with. I was wondering if anyone had to go through something similar to this? if so how did u lose your weight and keep it off? he says that i need to lose the weight due to i will gain weight when pregnant, and also I run the risk of m/c if i'm heavier?

I also was overweight when we were trying to get pregnant - and not succeeding.  My husband and I cut out all sugar and white flour from our diets.  I ended up losing 30 pounds.  I also started metformin due to PCOS then was put on clomid (again).  I had been on clomid on and off for years but would only get 1 follicle.  After losing the weight and being on metformin (this regulates your insulin levels which have some control over you ovaries) I took clomid again and had 3 follicles!  Got pregnant that month and I now have a beautiful 2 week old.  I'm also down to my pre-pregnancy weight already.  Hoping to lose even more with breastfeeding!

Thank you so much for your advice, i'm def. going to try my hardest to get this weight off. My biggest hurdle is sugar, if i can program my body to crave fruit instead of a snickers, i should be ok lol….

the diet that my dietician put me on worked wonders, its just sticking to it that i have a problem with!!!!

Baby dust to all!!!!

I don't have pcos but I've notice when trying to get weight off I do several things.  I eat 3 meals daily.  Breakfast is my heaviest meal.  I usually eat a veggie omlet with shredded cheddar cheese and salsa on top, lunch is a bowl of soup,(I like campbels healthy  choice or progresso ) supper is usually a big salad with   chicken or tuna and a  serving of chedder cheese. I usually eat 1 snack whenever I want or feel I need it.  I make sure I don't eat 3 hours b4 bed.  I drink water and tea no carbonated drinks. I don't feel deprived.  Hope this helps.

I also need to lose weight to do IVF.  I have a lot of weight to lose unfortunately.  I managed to lose 14kg doing a nutritionist-overseen programme, however I developed a severe depression, and the treatment has resulted in me gaining all of that weight back with interest!  I'm hoping I can keep on track and get the weight loss ball rolling again.  I have a goal of losing 30kg in the next 12 months.  I figure that's pretty reasonable?!

Good luck to you in your journey :)

You're welcome :) Healthy Cooking is also a great magazine with less complicated recipes. I use that one a lot during the week. Sounds like you are off to a great start already!

Thank you so much! I never had a weight problem till i hit 18 and the PCOS took hold. today was day 1 of the diet so far i'm doing really good. I bought a spiral notebook, and have been writing everything down that goes into my mouth so far its keeping me in check.

the MyfitnessPal on the phone is excellent, i love it and i use it when i dont have my notebook handy and then transfer everything over and write it down. i find that if i write it down instead of typing it keeps me more accountable for my actions. My bestfriend and I decided that we're going to start walking a local biketrail we have set up where i live. we did that today for about 30 min. I also am doing the WII and love it!!!!!

I will def, look into the magazines that teach you how to cook better. I'm all for it!

Thanks for the support!

I've definitely struggled with the whole weight loss thing my entire life, so I can TOTALLY relate. After years of "dieting" I have finally come to the sobering conclusion that in order to lose weight correctly and keep it off, you have to exercise AND eat right. That's how I've kept off about 50 lbs for almost ten years now. Personally, I hate to do it but I know I have to consistently and I really tried to get in the best possible physical shape before I decided to get pregnant--this was also my doctor's advice, like yours. Using a calorie tracker like MyFitnessPal on your phone can really keep you in check. It really is true that actually tracking what you eat every day can keep you from eating too much (at least is has in my case.) I've also kept a significant amount of weight off over the years by severly limiting how often I go out to eat and by teaching myself how to cook better. I subscribe to several magazines like Cooking Light which have really helped to teach me to see food differently. So, I'd say that finding a method of exercise that you can at least tolerate, educating yourself on how to cook more healthfully, and using a tracker are some good first steps, in my opinion :) Good luck!
