What cycle day should I start testing with OPKs?

I'm 24 and have decided to try for a baby AGAIN. I tried for a year after i got married 3 years ago and no luck. I stopped trying after i decided to go back to college. I've been trying again for 3 months and no luck so i want to start using OPKs. My cycle is all over the place. Some times 26 days and others 31 days, an average of 29 days. Any help is appreciated :)

I am a little confused, I have been testing since day 9, my cycle ranges from 28-31 days & only got an LH surge last night which is day 29 of my cycle. It's my first month of testing. I have symptoms that I usually get before my period, sore breasts etc but now am starting to think I may be pregnant.. Has anyone else come across anything like this before?

Thanks so much for your answers! I will try the OPK's this month and start testing on day 9. Hopefully this month will be my lucky month :)

A woman ovulates 14 days before menstruation if you have a regular 28 day menstrual cycle. You can note down few signs of ovulation like during ovulation the cervical mucus(discharge) increases and is of watery or raw egg white consistency; there is increase in basal body temperature; breast tenderness. Also you can use ovulation predictor kits.
