I am really SCARED

I went to the RE yesterday, and she told me she thinks DH and I best chance for conception is to do an IUI.  She alos said she thought I had PCOS.  I was really shocked because on all my ultra sounds I have NEVER had any cyst before. She did say that my testosterone level was slightly elevated.  I have already had an HSG done, and my tubes are open, so that is out of the way.  She was telling me she wants to do 2 differnt shots....one is a trigger shot, some type of pill, and progesterone, with the IUI.  Well of course DH and I signed up right to do it ASAP, which will have to be in May because the meds will not make it in time for this next cycle.  Can someone please help calm me nerves and tell me what the entrie process is like, what I will be feeling like, ect.  And if I really do have PCOS what are my chances of ever conceiving?  Thanks girls!

I also have done 6 IUIs and my HSG came out good. Now they want me to check to see if I have endo so I have to schedule a laprascopy. Maybe this would be a good step for you too since you really don't want to be wasting money on an IUI that isn't going to work..like I did.
good luck.

I really don't think it matters that much.  It's just what my RE does.

I just had my first medicated cycle last month!   I did femara 2.5mg cd3-7, then went in for a follie check (transvag ultrasound) on cd12 to check, i had one folie at 22mm, then they gave me an ovidrel trigger shot and about 26 hours later went in for an IUI, it is pretty easy - like sasparilla says,  your dh does his thing, and i dropped that off and came back about an hour later and its like any other pelvic exam with the speculum.. they said my cervix was pretty tight that it was hard to advance the catheter with the swimmers in there, however even with that being said i had no discomfort at all (except the whole situation of being in the stirrups in the first place of course!!) but i had no discomfort afterward either.. my RE said i was ok to do normal activities after that , though i rested anyways..I did lay there for only 10-15 minutes afterwards
One thing i do recommend is for your RE to do an ultrasound the day after the IUI to make sure that the follie did release the egg (rupture) mine did that (which i thought was strange) and unfortuantely my follie didn't rupture, even with the trigger and a natural LH surge!   sooo its a good thing to find out!   GOOD LUCK!!! i hope this is what gets you that BFP! : )

Question for you, i am on 2nd IUI and this time i took 100 mg ay 3-7, day 5 and 7 i had Bravelle shot, and they checked my follicles, and once everything looked ok i did Ovidrel shot and IUI the next day.

But when i did my IUI i only stayed at the table for 5 or so minutes and i was told that i can continue normal activites. Is that normal? Or i should have laid  there for 30 minutes???

Tina made a good point about your re "thinking" you have PCOS. I don't have cysts either. And I will be starting metformin next cycle.  The way my re explained it to me was that for my age I didn't have as many follies as they would expect in my age group therefore meaning my ovaries are "getting old" and it worsens with age. But again, I bet you will conceive!

I'm an old hat at IUI's.  Had 3 last year, and one last month.  If you have any questions, feel free to send me a message.  I don't have PCOS, but I feel like I am "intimate" with my female RE from so many IUI's.

Here's how mine have gone:
50 mg Clomid days 5-9
Day 12 Vag. Ultrasound to check on follie size/development(if youve never had one, theyre rather.. uhh.. probing to say the least)
Day 12 .. HCG trigger.. Ive only had 2 triggers
Day 13 or 14, get your DH to do the dirty in the specimin cup they provide.. I put the cup in my cleavage to keep it warm, then dtive like a bat out of hell to Dr's office
Same day;  Drop it off, they wash the "little men", put it in a syringe.. you leave for about 30-40 minutes
When you come back they put you in the stirrups.. then they get ye old speculum out, make sure your cervix is open, inset catheter of washed "men" into your cervix via a flexible tube.. they you lie there for about 30 minutes ( i bring a book),
then you can go.
My RD tells me to relax the rest of the day.. maybe take a nap.

I think the IUI is a good route to take. I do think I'd ask more questions regarding the PCOS. The word she chose to use -"think" you may have...not "have" is curious. I don't know of anyone here that has PCOS and doesn't have cysts. Hhhhmmmmm....Did she suggest Metformin?

I know how terribly unnerving news like this is.  However, both your tubes are open and that is really great news. At my last app I was diagnosed with a mild case of PCOS as well, and I was completely shocked.  My tubes are "no good" so they are going to clamp both of them before doing ivf to eliminate ectopic pregnancies.  I know your chances are really really high for conceiving through IUI, it will happen!  Keep your chin up!  This is just another bump in the fertility road. Also, the fact that you've never had a cyst is very positive! You will get your little miracle-I know, not soon enough :)
Hang in there

I've heard many positive stories about PCOS and conception.  You can actually do a search on fertility friend and enter PCOS as one of the criteria.  There are a lot of women on this forum that are doing IUIs.  I'm sure they will offer a great deal of comfort to you.

Best of luck!!
