Fatigue and leg pain

My grandson is 16 years old. For over 12 months he has been so very very fatigued all the time. Hardly able to get out of bed to go to school.
He has pains in his legs, dizziness and chest palpitations.
Now he is losing interest and getting depressed.
The Dr. took tests for diabetes.....said he was o.k.......that was it.
Now we are wondering if this sounds like fibromyalgia to anyone who has similar symptoms.
Thank you
from a worried grandmother

I fought with doctor's for years about symptoms that mimicked Diabetes and it turned out to be a problem called Orthostatic Intolerance.

Anyways, it's something I think you should continue pursuing if he is continuing to have the same problems.

Mono is very common at his age. I had Mono and got it from sharing a milk shake with my best friend who shortly after was diagnosed with Mono. I then also had it along with Tonsillitis, and Bronchitis at the same time. I was 17 when that happened.

If his current doctor continues to have disinterest in these abnormalities he is having it may be time to follow up with a new doctor for a second opinions.

I hope you find answers soon and that he is well.

Was just wondering if your grandson has been checked for Hemochromatosis.   It is an iron overload disease with many symptoms.   My 15 year old grandson has it - was diagnosed at 10.
It can be controlled by drinking green tea to make one anemic. -
But, before he tries anything, have the doctor check his iron and ferritin levels.  I am only a "carrier" of the disease but have had three phlebotomies myself.   (they take out a pint of blood and throw it away).
Some doctors prefer to do chelation treatments - but phlebotomy is the treatment of choice.
Please look up Hemochromatosis - he seems to have some of the symptoms.  Very common in people of European stock.

I think we must give some credit to his doctor.

Is it possible that the doctor totally overlooked the possibility of mono?

We keep hearing about how terrible NHS is getting in the UK, but a

physician to ignore mono symptoms and look into diabetes only,

just does not sound right.

There must be more to it.

Let's wait for graingel's response.

Does sound like Fibromyalgia.  But it also sounds like Mono.  Some years ago a water faucet at school was contaminated with Mono from some kid's lips.  Almost all the kids in that school came down with Mono.
He needs to be checked for Epstein Barr.

Hi graingel.

I'm at work now, so I only have a minute.
Does his mother have any thyroid issues or any other serious health issues that you know of?

I will reply later when I have more time.

Take care.
