Pains

I am a 21-year-old, overweight male, who has been experiencing chest pain for several months. I first went to the emergency room in October, and after an EKG and chest X-rays, I was sent home because everything was normal and the doctor said it was chest wall pain. Last month I went to my campus health center because the pain was a little more heavy (best way i could describe it) and after a lipid panel, the doctor said it was probably just probably acid reflux. Well now, I have the same heavy, sometimes stinging (when I stretch or sneeze), pain in my chest but also some pain in my shoulders and headaches (and strange stiffnesses in my head and neck that come and go). There are also pains in my throat that are somewhat sharp. None of the pain is continuous but they are persistent. Also, I had an odd occurrence this morning. When I woke up from a nightmare, my body completely froze and it felt as if my heart stopped beating and I lost my breath (I guess it was just a panic attack from the realism of the dream).

My blood pressure has never been extremely high (120-85 the last two times I have been to the doctor). Still I am afraid something could be seriously wrong with my heart. Anybody got any idea what could be going on? Could this be fibromyalgia?

I have Fibromyalgia and my 23 year old son is now showing signs of it.  He has severe depression, anxiety attacks, etc.  For now the only pain he has is in his shoulders which is where mine first started on me.  I really believe that stress does play a large role in getting Fibromyalgia, he has much stress in his life at the moment but when he describes his pain in his shoulders, it is the same as mine.  I really hate to see him struggle with this for the rest of his life being that he is soooo young.

Wow, I am sure glad that you came to this board! I have been going thru the same thing since last November. After many doctor and many ER trips, I finally saw a gastroentologist. It has to do with the acid reflux and the swelling of the esophagus. I had an endoscopy done yesterday, do not get the results until next week. But there were many times when I felt I could not breath, my shoulders really hurt and so did my left arm. Please look into this, the could be your problem too.

Hi Cory, I'm not sure what you have, but I know that fibromyalgia is much more common in women than in men.  I don't know your age, but I have a 21 yr. old son who gets a lot of neck and shoulder pain.  He works out and gets upset because he can't lift much weight anymore except for legs.  Also, stress can play a large part.

What you said about the nightmare and your body freezing, my son gets that too.  The doctor said it is a panic attack.  He takes xanax when he gets it.
