Medicinally Speaking-other meds

Besides Lyrica and Neurontin, what other pain med is really out there for Fibromyalgia?  I have taken both.  Loved the Lyrica.  I had no pain but the side effects were terrible, including the two broken toes.  My GP put me on Neurontin and I am up to 600mg as of last Friday.  One 300mg in the morning and one of the same at bedtime.  I still have pain but not quite as bad but u know it's still there.  I have some side effects from it, too, especially legs and ankles swelling daily.  I don't know how long I can continue the Neurontin and feel good about it with this swelling.  He says it won't bother my heart, which I have three stents.  I am still wrestling with the decision to continue to go to my rheumy or to just go to the GP?  Any suggestions?  My GP wants me to stop the rheumy but my husband doesn't.  Help, please.

Hi there...I have a quick question but I will give you a little info first...Laculose is an oral medication used to induce diarrhea...hence reducing water retention in the body and taking down the swelling...I don't think I would use it...

I am just starting on Lyrica for the 2nd time.  I am on Neurontin 800mg/day, Tegretol 900mg/day and Lyrica 75mg/day for starters.  My doc wants me to quit the Neurontin completely tomorrow and increase the Lyrica to 150mg daily and then increase again by 75mg next week if all goes well.

Here's the thing...I tried Lyrica last Nov. with a different Neuro 75mg 3Xday...I took 5 doses and I had severe vertical double vision, lost the ability to speak and walk and I saw that you said something about broken toes...any connection???

I was just "re" diagnosed with fibromyalgia by a rheumatologist at the Mayo Clinic.

He prescribed a low dose 10 mg of AMYTRIPTILINE in the evenings - for nerve pain and it also helps you get the deep REM sleep it is thought that we fail to get.

It seems to be helping and it is VERY affordable.  You might want to try it - your GP can write the prescription.  Good Luck!

Hey!  I just was on another board and we were talking about body pain. A woman said she took Laculose and it stopped the swelling and her severe pain. I have no idea what it is, but was curious and asked. I will let you know, or you can google it.  How are those toes?

here in canada most rheumys will not follow up on fibro  - i dont know the meds your taking but the swelling i would be worried about - the swelling will cause decreased circulation which means less oxygen and vitamins and cleansing to/for the muscles
what is your gut telling you - i wouldnt give up the rheumy unless you had to - i would ask both the same questions that your asking here - what are all my options as far as medications go - my gp put me on a b vit mixture used for  heart patients and it helped a lot but my insurance wouldnt cover it and why is your gp so against the rhuemy
hope this helps
