More on xenotropic murine leukemia virus and CFS / M.E.

"But the new findings were sufficiently alarming that the National Cancer Institute called together a group of experts in August to consider its potential effect on public health."

I'm glad you see the politics involved with some of these illnesses. Remember Gulf War Syndrome ? Yep... it was real, then it wasn't and then it was, etc.  And yet interestingly enough... the government was treating these people with antibiotics because they knew that these soldiers had mycoplasma infections. Try to keep the public confused the...that is what they do best ! The only good news about the pharmaceutical companies getting involved is that they will have their commercials and the public will change their view on these controversial illnesses. It happened with fibromyalgia.

Fab Dr T! I'm busy collecting info to take to my new doc next month. She's not going to know what hit her.

I will not be fobbed off (British expression, sorry - means brushed off)
I will not walk out that office feeling like a nutcase fraud.
I will get her to help me, or refer me to someone who can.
I am sick! I will get the help I need, dammit!

I love what Dr T said about pharmaceutical companies getting interested and pushing for people to take this seriously because of expensive retro-vitral drugs. Yup, that's the way the money goes - some doctors are weasels!

I think the Whittemore Peterson's link answers all of those questions. Here are two CFS physicians views on the latest discovery:

http://www.davidsbell.com/PrintLynNewsV6N2.htm - Dr. David Bell (Harvard graduate)

http://www.endfatigue.com/health_articles_f-n_2/Infections-xmrv_virus_found_in_cfs_patients.html  - Dr. Teitelbaum's comments --- I love what he calls some of the judgmental and ignorant people that I'm sure we've all encountered. Check it out ! = )

Wow - this is amazing news.
But I really don't like the "Leukemia" bit of "xenotropic murine leukemia virus". Scary.

I wonder how long it will be before we can all get tested? And treated?.....

Thank gd it's blood-borne and not air or droplet-borne. Not much chance of having infected my kids or friends. But my husband...teeny bit of blood from chapped lips enough to transmit it? Lord I hope not or my household will grind to a total halt!

I hope our docs all read up on XMRV and take us - and it- seriously.

As Aragon (Lord of the Rings) would say, "there is always hope".  I hope this information isn't frightening people. This is actually good news. We KNOW that we are ill and with this new research will come other studies and more treatment options. Woo hoo !

I wish you happy and healthy holidays ahead !
