Questions about Fibro

Hi everyone, I just have a few questions about fibro, it's been almost 6 months now since both my mother and I had a flu that left us with muscle aches and soreness, also muscle and ligament tightness, some things have improved greatly in the severity but I still have problems (ie: constant muscle soreness, tightness ( especially in the back of my arms down the sides of my ribs and my mid to lower back and thighs ), heel pain, some light aches which get worse if I have a big day, tenderpoints in some areas some are just a little tender others are very tender but I don't have all 18  ) What I wanted to ask is:

1. Is the muscle soreness that's described for fibro like a lactic acid build up feeling or just very sore to touch like the muscle is bruised? ( I have both these feelings )
2. With the heel pain do you find it comes and goes througout the day and is often worse after a couple of hours walking on your feet?

3. Did anyone here prior to fibro have a muscle strain injury and do you find that the fibro is often worse in that area?

4. Does anyone here have jaw problems where sometimes you'll wake up and your jaw is out of alignment which may last for a few days then go back in on it's own again?

5. Does anyone find that after  a massage they're muscles are sore for a couple of weeks not just a couple of days?

6. Lastly , my mother due to have a hysterectomy very soon and suffering from these problems too is naturally worried and wanted to know Does Fibro sometimes get worse after an operation like that? ( her uterus is as big as a 3 month pregnancy so they have to do a C section for the operation )
Thankyou in advance for your help
Hugs Kathy

Hi there -

It's difficult to answer the separate questions you post, because fibro symptoms wax and wane so frequently and they are different for every individual.

If you experience heel pain, it's normal for it to worsen after standing or walking for long periods of time. However, that would also be normal for someone who does not have fibro.

I haven't noticed any difference in areas where i've had previous muscle strains, than from other areas that ache from fibro, although depending on the severity of the strain it could have weakened that area and make it more sensitive than others.

TMJ is a common symptom of fibro and what you describe is part of that.

I notice that anything I do (massage, housework...anything effecting my muscles) will cause me to ache for days afterwords.  Certainly, a deep massage can do more harm than good for fibromites.

I have had many surgeries since being dx'd and there are certain things that can occur due to having fibromyalgia.  I've noticed that pain medications aren't as effective; the sedation they use lingers twice as long; and as selma mentioned...I too found that the healing process took longer than it would for someone who did not have fibromyalgia.

I had a hysterectomy about 7 yrs. ago and I believe it was what set me into a full blown flare...I was dx'd with fibro shortly afterwords.  This is not uncommon as there has been a theory that an illness or surgery may be what upsets the CNA.  I will keep your mom in my prayers and i'm sure she will be just fine.  She is lucky to have you there to watch over her and care for her.

God bless and best wishes.

I have other dx's that I can not be sure which symptom is from which condition  ....so I don't feel I can answer ur questions.

But I do want to send my best to ur mom for her upcoming surgery.
I imagine any surgery will affect this condition......I had several, and I tend to heal alot slower...it could be me, my fibro or my other dx.....

Good luck
Godspeed
