Shoulder pain

When I carry a purse with a shoulder strap for more than a few minutes my shoulder begins to ache so badly I can no longer carry the purse.  I also notice that when I am walking for any distance my upper arms begin to ache like I am carrying something very heavy even when I am not carrying anything at all. Does anyone else have these symptoms?  I am wondering if it is from Fibromyalgia or something else.  Thanks

i've learned to carry my purse with both hands in front of me up against my body--helps alot with shoulder and neck pain--or, I put it in the cart.

I was sitting at my laptop a couple of years ago, and felt my shoulder "drop", for lack of a better way to explain it. From that point on, my shoulder would ache. Like you, it would ache carrying anything with a shoulder strap, or perhaps just aching out of nowhere. Last year, when I worked at a local restaurant filling in for a couple of days washing dishes, it inflamed my shoulder so bad that I couldn't hardly move my arm at all for almost 3 weeks. My husband would have to "manipulate" my arm and shoulder to get it to work again. But, during this time, it hurt terribly, and I would cry, especially when he was helping me, but it helped, so I had to let him do it. It felt significantly damaged for this whole past year, although now it does feel much better. I can tell it's still not normal, and the possibility of it going downhill in the future I'm sure is still there, but for now, it's better than it's been since that night it first "dropped" on me. My other shoulder has done it since, but it has never bothered me like my right shoulder has. Anyway, I would love to hear from anyone else whose had this type of experience?  I imagine it's caused by a loss of cartilage, or loss of bone mass or something, but would like to hear it in somebody else's words. Dr wanted me to have an MRI on it, but I didn't have the money for it.
