Hi, Never knew about Barley reducing inflamation.
Raw veggies not good?  I would eat them and rely on our digestive juices to break them down, not body heat.  After all 98.6 is what we are most times.

Provigil is a narcolepsy drug.  It is sometimes used in people with FM/CFS to help them stay awake during the day.  It is also give to people who work night shifts, so they can function during the day.

Try Elavil (amitriptyline) for sleep and FM pain.  The generic is only available now, but it is working for me.  I have lived on Soma for the past year.  Just started this tricyclic antidepressant,   and am having great results.  The higher dose 25mg. had me daytime groggy, so now we are doing a low dose thing 5mg..  I did not need Soma yesterday!!

I myself am out of medical insurance. I did do some research on line and called some doctors offices asking if they knew of any low income or on a sliding scale in my area and I found a doctor. She is kinda strict on giving out pain meds but I am able to see a doctor for fibro/cfs and anything else medically for 20 dollar office visits. You may want to check with you county health program. I myself also found a mental health facility that will hopefully give me the other medication I need for pain that she will not and all the visits are free with doctors. It may take some of your time up but worth making a few calls or looking on line in your area.

I could not take Lyrica b/c of side effects.  (hard to explain the effects) I take provigil and that really helps with energy. I did gain some weight with Lyrica while I was trying it.

I saw that you take soma, and lyrica does the lyrica really help? and did you have trouble with weight gain? I take soma also and flexaril. Soma at nite to help me sleep and keep me more comfortable and flexaril during the day but even then that doesn't do it...there are days I cannot get out of bed my Nezar has to pull me out and there are days he's not home when I awake and its so awful just trying to get myself out of bed. I thought of lyrica but  no insurance for one and second weight gain scares me...

I am 61 and have had FMS since I was 45.  It took several years of various doctors and testing to be diagnosed.  It was, and still is very difficult to deal with.  I have found the following to be of the most use to me:

A doctor who is willing to work with me and prescribe some beneficial meds.  The meds are different for everyone it seems, so the ones that work for me may not work for you.
Stretching 10 to 15 minutes in bed before rising.
Weight bearing exercise 3 times a week (15 minutes with light weights).
Simple diet of fiber laced food, cooked vegetables, only small amounts of salad, ripe bananas and manderine oranges as fruit, lots of barley soup, lots of water, no caffeine
Retire at the same hour every day and rise at the same hour.
Take lots of magnesium.
Try progressive relaxation and meditation once you get your routine established.  I find it very helpful during those times that I just cannot settle into sleep.  It is a substitute for sleep.  It is not as good but is better than nothing and sometimes it puts me to sleep.

If you cannot afford to go to a doctor and cannot think of starting a routine right now.  You might try taking magnesium and cooking the barley soup.  That is as long as you are not sensitive to grains.  It is simple, soothing and will reduce inflamation.  You can make it with beef, turkey or chicken.  I like the turkey best.  Just get some turkey pieces, onion, garlic, parsley and carrots.  Put it together with 1 and 1/2 cups barley and 4 cups water.  Bring to boil and simmer until barley is tender.  You can add chicken soup mix to taste as long as it has no MSG.  We FMS people are sensitive to MSG.  Eat it for lunch and dinner the first day with some low calorie crackers: then eat it for lunch the following day.  You will notice a reduction in that heavy, blown up feeling that we get almost immiately.  It will also feed your brain.  A Chinese doctor that I went to told me that our brains are starving for energy and thats why we crave carbs.  She told me to eat lots of barley soup, ripe bananas, manderine organges, avoid raw fruit and vegetables, bread (only 2 slices a week for a treat) caffeine and chocolate (I still have a bit of chocolate occasionally but very rarely eat bread).  She told me I could have raw fruit and vegetables if the weather was hot.  She says that we have "cold stomaches" and our stomaches cannot "cook" our food.  But, when it is hot our stomaches warm up and we can eat raw foods and vegetables.  The only exceptions are raw ripe bananas and manerine oranges.

I wish you all the best in your forthcoming journey towards wellness.  You will find many challenges but also rewards on this journey.

It really helps to talk to people who truely understand. My family is supportive, but that can only go so far. It is very helpful to talk to people who are going through similar health issues. Sometimes the talking helps you to know you are not imagining things, too. I'm sorry you are in so much pain. It is not easy.

HI,,I just wanted to tell you hi and if you ever wanted to chat I would be delighted.  I have had fibro my whole life but diagnosed 5yrs ago,,its a day to day struggle and everyday is different.  The most beneficial things to me is the meds,,Lyrica,Soma, and a good pain med,,but thats not always a good route due to addiction and so on. There are wonderful web-sites under fibroomyalgia that give you all the info you need to start a pure mineral,,vitamin routine which helps the fibro.  I will look up the website a doc writes he gives all the info you need,,,so Ill send you that link when I get it.  I hope you can find a low cost or free clinic in your area try calling a church for sure,,they are a big help.  Good luck and talk to ya soon :)

Hi there,

There's a fine support group in your area that may help you in more ways than one.

I knew there used to have 'free clinics' in your area as well......and a church sponsered free medical center.  (Geez!! Wish  I remember their name.........I will message you when I find out.

Meanwhile, hang in tight.  I know how difficult it is to lose a job because of health.  Any thing I can help with, please don't hesitate to messag/note me.  You don't and won't have to suffer all this alone.
