Hi there my friend -

Same to you and your family...wishing you the best in 2009.

Yes, they order tests but aren't really ordering the proper testing to rule out pathogens, mineral toxicity, or certain viral probs.  Things that will not show up in a routine blood test.  So, if these illnesses are truly caused by certain bacterial/viral, microplasms or pathogens, they won't find them.  I'm thinking that the tests that are necessary are too expensive, so it could be politics involved.

Have you ever heard of Morgellons?  They call it the 'fiber disease' because of its symptoms.  The CDC doesn't want to acknowledge this as an infectious illness (another "It's all in your head" dx).  These may be fibers, but what is causing/making them are parasites.  I've seen the videos of this from those who have it and from labs (it's on YouTube).  How can they say that it is some type of parasitic delusion?  You can see them moving...they are not delusional.  If they can't name something, then it appears to be non-existent...in their eyes.  My sister-in-law mentioned something like this to me back in the 80's.  She lived in California most of her life (she's passed on now).  She said she had a container at home full of fibers she had collected.  Of course, it was far-fetched to me at that time, but shouldn't be to the medical arena.

I feel so sorry for these people, that no one will believe them...just like us.  (Yes, i've been reading all sorts of things on the health pages and looking up things).  I'm taking Dr. Nicholson's treatment of chronic illnesses article to my IM next visit.

Hey VaBreeze,

Happy New Year !!!! There are definitely other diseases that can mimic Fibromyalgia or CFS. What upsets me is I see many physicians not ordering all of the diagnostic tests on patients that they should be. They automatically say, "fibromyalgia" without ruling out many other possible conditions.

For CFS... heart conditions should be ruled out, Chaga's disease, lyme disease, B12 deficiency, autoimmune conditions, thyroid conditions, etc. etc.

I hope that everyone here will check out our Health Pages and read, "diagnostic tests for fibro / CFS". Also, I just posted results from a recent research study on urinary cortisol levels in fibromyalgia patients.

PlateletGal, I was going to post something along the same thinking in one of the other messages (regarding overlapping conditions).  I also strongly feel that these illnesses are related because of the symptoms...I think the only difference is the rate of progression.

There are other things that can mimic FMS/CFS...but they aren't the same.  Arthritis, anxiety and tension...a couple that can cause like symptoms.  Stress can do much damage to the body and emotional well-being.  Hormones, as mentioned, can also cause problems.  The great difference being that all of these are treatable and, once treated, the symptoms will be relieved to a great degree (not to minimize the symptoms of any of these horrible conditions).  With FMS/CFS or MS, there is little relief by standard methods of treatment.

Take care and wishing you pain-free days in 2009.

When Garth Nicolson, Ph.D was answering questions here in MedHelp, he said that he considers that "there is a fine line between MS-like symptoms and FMS".

(source: http://www.medhelp.org/posts/show/648144 --- response to neverwin)

I agree with Professor Nicolson. I have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and I know that I share almost all of the symptoms that MS patients do. And research is now backing this up.... we both have abnormal proteins found in our cerebrospinal fluid. We often have low uric acid levels and abnormal MRI's. I know that there is a research test (spinal fluid)... that apparently can diagnose CFS or fibromyalgia. It is a national lab that is doing this testing. I'm not sure whether or not insurance currently will pay for this, but the lab is "Red Labs USA". You can google their name for their website if you would like more info.

Wishing you both a Happy & Healthy New Year,

~PlateletGal

I have pain almost constant, mostly shoulders, neck, head.  I have no diagnosis so far.
I am become more anxious as time goes by and of course anxiety makes eveything worse.  I have become depressed and it is affecting my speech , thinking and balance  in fact I feel totally out of balance throughout my body .  I've been wondering if it could be hormonal. I have been told I have fibromyalgia - but have never had any kind of tests!

Sorry I have not been of any help,  just thought I,d let you know you are not alone with these wierd , scarey symptoms.

Let me know if you find any answers please.  Thinking of you. regards Jayne.
