i know that was long-winded but if you can get thyroid normalised before resorting to thyroidectomy, please do this. i went out of range with a ft4 of 30 [normal 10-20], and it was fortunately manageable and responded to temporary medication

there is a lot to thyroidisms (which is probably why you're making additional enquiries) so please read up as much as you can about them.
thyroidectomy is usually last resort procedure as it is drastic, so reading up and asking around is recommended.. i've heard good and bad results from different people (three of my rellys actually!)
i took tablets (carbimazole) which helped some symptoms, and also avoided stress, excluded soy/ iodine/ dairy consumption (butter ok); did some singing, got counselling for 'issues' - and seem to have recovered. exclude smoking too.
please find a competent gp or specialist.
