My doc has recently taken me off methadone and he says I have fibromyalgia. I have severe back pain only. I haven't slept since the detox. It was a 5 week detox and 1 week since I took my last dose. It has been horrible. I do not recommend Methadone unless you'll be on it forever. I regret ever trying it. It has made me different. I am dealing with depression, sleep problems. daytime fatigue and very high blood pressure. My doctor has not given me any replacement medicine. He is convinced that my brain will learn to did it once again. I don't believe so. I am in horrible pain. If anyone can recommend anything for me, I would appreciate it.

don't try going off methadone by yourself! I am doing right now and I am sooooo sick, don't know if I will make it. It's only the second day. I have fibro and have been on pain meds. for yrs. I didn't want to go on meth, but my doc wanted me to try it. Now I have moved to another state and haven't found a doctor, so I'm screwed!

Debby - That's really great to hear!!!!!  Yay, that deserves some more !!!!!!'s.  Also congratulations to you for working through and figuring out stuff.

Fibro, Angel - there's an addiction forum and the folks there know a lot about their drugs.  It's truly a different problem and their withdrawal has a large emotional component, so i wouldn't worry about that part.  (I'm hesitating to mention it because I wouldn't want anyone adding to their stress with new things to worry about from that forum.)  But for technical questions, thought I'd mention it.

I was up for 4 1/2 days when my doctor called to check on me. He put me on a sleeping pill which made me sleep. I used to love to sleep but I think something happened to me brain. It's like I don't want to sleep. I aure wish that would stop. I found with the opiate drugs...they do make you hurt more. I got off the methadone and now I'm on 120mg of Cymbalta and 6 percocet a day and I'm funtional. I 'm back to cooking dinner, washing clothes, shopping, stuff I didn't do for months. My husband tells me how nice it is to have his wife back.  From what I have read, these drugs really mess with you brain and craves more so you hurt to get more.Weaning slowly does work for me, if I'm gonna stop then I have to just stop. I can't see going 2-3 months to wean off. I just wanted that stiff out of me, yeah it was bad but now I can think so much more clearly. I personally had to do it that way and I'm so glad I did. You guys have helped me so much. I'm so glad I found you all !!!

I am on methadone.I am having a hard time though because even though it is suppose to be one of the strongest drugs out there,I still hurt.Does this happen to you?And about the switch from methadone to something else,I would be very careful.I went into detox after 4 days without it and I couldn't eat or sleep.A friend of mine said when they went through detox from methadone he couldn't sleep for 18 days.It is best to wean off slowly.

I was on Methadone and stopped on a Sunday because I was starting opana on Monday a morphine based drug...Believe me it didn't matter by Thursday night I was in the emergency room in full detox.  Just becareful. If you start into detox they'll give you Clonidine patches in the ER to help you. Good Luck I'm here if you need to talk
