Foot Pain, top of foot

I randomly get a sudden sharp pain in my left or right foot, on the top.  Like a little knife is stuck in me or a huge bug is biting me.  What causes this and what can I do to make it go away.  I sometimes get the sam feeling on my ankle or my hand?

it does sound like a nerve entrapment causing "neuritis".
wear supportive shoes.  make sure you don't have tight straps over the foot.
take 800 mg ibuprofen in the AM and PM (only if you are not allergic and not taking other anti-inflammatories or other blood thinners).

im not a doctor but it sounds to me like its some kind of trapped nerve. i get them all the time in my arms espically when i do masses of exersise my arms ache and receive a sharp pain.

my suggestion is to keep an eye on these pains. note down what time of day you get them and note anything that might trigger the pains. (like keeping a dairy) so you get some sort of pattern.

if not then im sure another reply with a doctor might help.
