How to relieve pain on top of foot

Due to a fall I have an increased pain in the top of my foot.   Feels like a bump there.  My dtr had xray taken because foot swelled up quite a bit.  Xray only showed I have a tiny plantar spur.  Have problems with lack of support for my feet as well, due to being born with crooked feet, for which I wore braces.  Wear supports in all shoes.  Dtr told me to rest foot and keep pillow under it.  Did this for a few hours a day but have things I need to do!  It's been 3+ weeks since my fall, is there any exercises I can do that might stretch the muscle on top of my foot?  Feel that might help. Any advice you can give would be much appreciated.

It sounds like you may have a stress fracture.  I would get repeat foot x-rays.  Sometimes, stress fractures don't show up until several weeks later. It is very difficult to strain a muscle on the top of the foot to cause so much swelling and the "bump" feeling.

Thank you for your response on Nov 30,2008.  I did as you said and had another xray done on my foot.  (See Chrisse question dated Nov 24,2008.  You were right!  My foot did have a broken bone!  Hopefully with my walking foot brace it'll heal quickly.

Thank you again.
