Selma, thank you for your response....I am back to normal..I do believe it was caused from "over eating" LOL, which I certainly did over the holidays. I do have a Dr appointment but not till March, and I do plan to question him extensively...I have also done a lot of research online and that is why I say I think it was over indulgence...BTW...I have had a stress test etc for my heart and I came out with a clean slate. Thanks again mbr....
Hi there,
I have struggled with GERD for most of my life - and other more serious issues - and I have progressed to Barrets and will be going for Nissen Fundoplication Surgery soon - but I have never experienced the "gasping for air" that you are describing.
Having said that: if this was just a once off breathing problem it could be non-specific, but if it ever happens again, please go and see your Doctor or go to the ER as this could be indicative of heart, lungs or GERD issues and needs to be taken care off.
All the best,
Hi..I agree u should see ur Dr, but if u over indulged it could be u were bloated and mayb causes some pressure on the vagus nerve which could cause this breathing issue as could the bloating against ur diaphragm.
Do see ur Dr and post an update on ur progress, I pray all is well : )

Asthma can result from acid reflux. Get serious about your GERD.
Find out if you have Celiac disease causing your GERD, because if you do, you will need to go on a gluten-free diet to get in control of a mountain of health problems that will come your way if you fail to get off gluten.
Sounds like you have either developed an allergy to Protonix, OR you have developed Asthma.
I would call the doctor and ask for an Rx for Prilosec/Omeprazole.
Try taking the Omeprazole instead of the Protonix- Much cheaper.
