Am i facing GERD??

I started to have frequent stomach pains n ocassional chest pains about 1 year ago.. lately its been getting worse..often burp badly after food, like u feel a whole lot of gas trap within which u need to burp out, stomach cramps and pains which leads to muddy and loose stools. i was worried and so i went to see a local Gastrologist.

i had endoscopy done and was diagonised as Gerd. with only small inflamation on the Osophagus. Doc told me to watch the diet, reduce caffine, quit smoking e.t.c  and prescribled some acid reduction pills for me.. For next 2 weeks, i was feeling good on the medication. However after more than a month, which i have alrerady stopped the medication, the stomach cramps ~ irregular loose/muddy bowels came back..the burping and occassional chest pains also came back.

i want to know whether i am really facing GERD..coz i do not know why i had like stomach cramps almost every day and my bowels are usually loose and muddy.. i do not have diahorrea coz diahorrea means your bowels are bascially in liquid form. Stools are not black too...no blood traces on stools as well.. Are these symptoms of GERD too? Do i need further checks into my stomach such as colonscopy e.t.c

Please advise???

It glad to know that GERD does affect one bowel movements.. i think the real need for change is to watch the diet and stop my smoking.

Smoking actually triggers the Osophagus, heavy meals, oily and hot stuff is a no no too. in fact after facing these GERD problems for the last 1 year, i kinda decided to quit smoking after being a social smoker for the last 13 years.  The daily 5 to 8 sticks of cigarattes have to stop. But  having a puff whenever i have a drink only should not do much damage! i love coffee in the morning too.. but usually after the glass of coffee, i also have the itch to go to the toliet for BM..so i am stoppin my caffine addiction too..i switch to Tea without mik for a change..

I stopped puffing as of today..lets hope it helps..i have also booked an appointment to see my local Gastrologist again..i will battle this GERD problems by making a chnage to my lifestyle and diet.

cheers

Hi...most do not realize how their BM can be affected by gerd...u can develope IBS.

U need to keep a journal of what u eat and how u feel...it may help u find ur triggers. To modify ur diet may be all u need to do, but u should be under the care of a dr and tell him everything....keeping the journal will help u see a pattern and also a way to not forget to tell the dr bcuz u will have it all in ur book!

Good Luck...and please post an update!!

very probable it is GERD, gerd can cause "mishapen" stools, chest pain is caused by the GERD, however a hiatal hernia could have developed, or a peptic ulcer due to increased acid in the stomach... i would reccomend getting Prilosec OTC from your local drugstore its about ten bucks... take it for two weeks"no longer"!!! the only side effects are severe gas and if taken for more than two weeks it may cause pain in the legs"crampish pain" if the prilosec doesnt start helping after a week go back to the doc, tell him whats going on sorry i cant help more
