Aspirated stomach fluid

I have had GERD and have been using Prevacid for a number of years.  However, for the past few weeks I had missed my meds (family problems), and last evening I ate just before bedtime.  During the night I woke up, unable to breath, choking and then started coughing.  I had aspirated stomach fluids.  Today my chest is a little sore and I'm still coughing.  Should I see a doctor to have my lungs checked?  Thank you.

U r welcome!!

I never had this happen, but I just saw a story on TV about a little boy that was swimming and must have gotten water in his lungs...small amount, but after getting out of the pool he took a nap and died!!...of drowning!!!......so any fluid in ur lungs can not be good...espically something with acid in it.

Can u go to an ER care place?

Good Luck....and keep us posted!!

Thank you Selma,

Yes I'm sure some of the fluid got into my lungs, this happened once before, years ago, but I can't remember what I did at that time.  I'm away from home and won't be able to see my dr for another couple of weeks.  I am feeling better today, it's been 2 days now and the cough is settling down, so I probably won't see the doc.  I'm sure this happens to others, I'm wondering if it requires some treatment...what do others do?

thank you for being here.
